Unless my memory is failing me completely, Frogboy said somewhat-recently in IRC that favor items won't just make 1v3 and such possible, they will make it [i]necessary[/i] in some situations. I'm sure "normal" skirmish will be played mostly with favor items turned off or with players using equal levels/values of favor items, but one of the major goals for Demigod multiplayer was to have automatic matchmaking that could set up all kinds of unusual but even matchups.

There will eventually be more favor items that are significantly more expensive and have much better bonuses. You can think of the current favor items as level-1 items :D

It is supposed to be real players but often there aren't enough other players searching so it matches you against AI's. You can press ctrl+~ to open the console and then type ren_shownetworkstats to display a box that will show whether you are actually connected to other players. Type it in again to get rid of it, and press ctrl+~ again to make the console go away.

You shouldn't need to open any ports; that is why Stardock is making this fancy system. You won't always connect with everyone because the system is still buggy.

Thank God Demigod isn't using GameSpy. The thought is just painful [e digicons]8(|[/e] . We've had lots of rough times with the connectivity but I've done surprisingly well in beta 3 so far.

I've definitely teleported to the dark portal and taken that before, and I tested it and was able to teleport to both sides easily. I kind of like the idea of having it available, though maybe it is a little too easy. Maybe put a few more towers nearby so you have to work for it more?
