If you open Bootskin Vista and an explorer window to the directory of your Vista bootskins, you can just drag and drop them (only one at a time, I believe) into Bootskin Vista.
Did you try using ALT-0255 (from keypad) in place of the invisable character? That's an old undeletable file joke. also trying the ? character in place of the invisable one.
