Thanks. There has been some improvement. I can now play out normally to about 300 turns. At that point, I start getting Out of Memory errors when I try to save. I am using 32 bit Vista and I have 2048 MB RAM. It seems that an increase in virtual memory is in order. What should I increase the maximum to? And is there a figure to place the initial size at apart from the minimum of 16MB? Thanks!

Okay, One thing more. This is an HP laptop. I see HP has some updated audio and video drivers. Anyone want to weigh in on those? Thanks!
Infernal, Thanks, that is a good suggestion. J
I have downloaded, but not installed, that driver. One question, shouldn't I be able to find that driver on www.nividia.com ? I just want to be sure that the driver isn't going to foul up my laptop.
Hi. I will look into updating the service pack. I had not considered that. As to the video drivers, I have tried. As I mentioned above, I checked at www.nvidia.com and there are no newer drivers for this card. I will check into audio drivers also, but am skeptical about that fixing anything.
Okay. I am playing Dark Avatar. I have tried both the campaign and the plain sandbox game. Both lock up on me between 20 - 60 turns into the game. Campaign usually locks up very early in the game. The problem is always the same. I will 'hit' the green turn button, the computer will start its move, but the turn button never returns. This is happening both in Dark Avatar and Dreadlords. I am planning to get Twilight of Arnor, but I have not ordere
Okay, that did it for Impulse. And I have Dreadlords and Dark Avatar up and running. However, playing in the 'sandbox' mode, or non-campaign, it is still freezing up on me about 30-45 turns into the game. Any thoughts?
I believe it is activate.exe Impulse does not even work for me. It simply states that it is connecting, but never does. When I try to update, it tells me that I am not connected to the internet, which is ludicrous, because I am.
Hello, I bought Galactic Civilizations II Dread Lords from the bargain bin at Target yesterday. ($9.95!!!) I installed it, and played it a little last night. I have played it before, and it was just as great as I recall it. However, it is a little buggy and kept freezing on me about 45-75 turns into the game. My next step was to download the most recent patch I could find. After I did so, and installed the pat
Hello again. Wow, I don't think I will ever get this game to work correctly. I have it in late game, just me and two other major civilizations remaining. Now, however, everytime I manually save, or the autosave kicks in, the game crashes. It freezes with the bottom of the screen bar saying saving, and then after a while it crashes to an all black desktop, that simply says, 'Out of Memory' Which is not true, as the HDD has 97 gigs free, and I have 2 gigs of RAM. This is Windows
Hello again. Every so often, the galactic map, the large one, not the mini-map, will somehow get locked into a scrolling phase. It will slowly scroll to one corner of the game map and stick there. I can left-click with the mouse, and re-center the map, but then it begins to scroll again. Normally, I have to restart the game entirely to get around this. Any help??
Hello. Okay, had a crash recently. Any ideas: What OS you running? Vista Home Is it English or a particular language (Swedish, German, Japanese, etc.) English What video card do you have? Thanks all. What the heck, I still have a huge navy left and a fair amount of transports. I think I will go a Jagged Edge bashing!!
Hi. Okay, got the game working. Thanks to all here with their helpful advice. Now a game question. I am pretty late in the game, playing against 8 other races in a gigantic galaxy. I am playing the Altarians, all the worlds, except for a handful of Class 1 planets, have been colonized. I am pretty well in the lead on almost everything. Population, Research, Economy, Industy. Only in military am I in second place as the Drath are way ahead of me. I was in a war with the Drengin,
[quote] Okay, video drivers are updated. By the way, that website you suggested wants to charge for video driver updates. HP, the maker of this laptop offers from them for free, so that is what I did. Unless you were looking at an ad or something, the drivers at laptopvideo2go.com are still completely free. They really couldn't charge even if they wanted to since they're just the stock nVidia drivers with the install files modified so they'll install on lap

I went ahead and updated DA too while I was at it. Problem seems worse now though, I started a new game and it froze up much earlier into the game. Hi. Well I tried posting this in the get help section. Lets see if putting it here helps. What OS you running? Hi. I posted this by mistake outside. Let me try again. I am having early mid-game crashes on or about 8/8/2229 in game time. What OS you running? Vista Home Is it English or a particular language (Swedish, German, Japanese, etc.) English What video card do you have? Nvidia Geforce Go 7600 What kind of CPU do you have? Intel Core 2 Duo Processor How much memory you have HHD space 90 gigs free RAM = 2 gig
Okay, i have registered and updated from stardock. The game did play better, however, now, it keeps crashing about 8 Aug 2229 game time. I have a laptop Vista Home, Nvidia Geforce Go 7600. It seems to crash when a new constructor is getting built from a specific world, but I am not sure. I will attempt to post debug below. Install switch found GalCiv2 DLL path: C:\PROGRA~1\Stardock\TOTALG~1\GalCiv2\GDFGalCiv2.dll Install directory: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\G
Cool. Then I will register at once.
Sirs, I purchased Galactic Civlizations II (Gold edition) Sunday night (10/14/07) from Best Buy. I took it home and installed it on my one year old, with updated video drivers, HP workstation. It would run well for ten or so turns and then the screen would black. through tinkering, I could save the game and quit, but I had to restart. I could resume play again, but again after ten to fifteen turns, same thing. Oddly, it often seemed to happen whenever I first met a new alien ra
