The animations would be cool. But since not everybody has a good computer and this game is pretty big (in bytes) anyway, my battles would just end up running slow and a lot of people with bad comp's would just skip them so they don't have to wait an hour to finish a battle. YES, it would be really cool, but not practical.

ok, I hit take sreenshot and it took a screenshot but I can't figure out where it was saved, or if it was. Any one know what I might be doing wrong?
Rationalizing the "civies as soldiers" mechanic is, of course, a doomed prospect to begin with.
Think about it this way, you invade with civilians, but THEY are defending with civilians. There, I have the solution and I am all knowing, bow down to me!

If this game could simulate reality... you'd get no-where. you'd never win, plain and simple. There's just too much political and religious BS that gets in the way. The closest anyone ever got to ruling the world was Hitler and he's dead. Real issues for instance would be: Riots and rebellions on planets you've (sucessfuly) invaded. you're opinion on issues like gay marriage and stem cells (and people will always disagree with you). Crime. Corr
And you send 1 man in a small scout. He will travel for almost 10 years in this small scout, and if you like Star Wars, think of it as a TIE Fighter's cockpit, this thing is good enough for 1 person and for short trips, nothing big or fancy.
Maybe instead of making life support modules allow you to travel farther, we could do something realistic and make you be able to travel for a longer amount of turns instead. There, you want realism, you got it.

I dunno about you, Shadow, but I'll trade with the Drengin even if I'm good. They're my enemy, but it's my trade route. So, how do these mines determine who's friend and who's foe here? Who you are at war at I suppose. Yes, like that. Like if you have your ships auto-attack when your not at war, they wont shoot or move, same thing.

Where can I find my current logistics value if I don't have several ships in one field? I've looked everywhere and the only possibilty to find it seems to have several ships in one field and trying to combine them. Go to the empire management screen and then hit the stats & graphs tab. Choose abilities, and then scroll down to your logistics ability. Whatever % it is will be your logistics ability. There, happy? I answered your question! now leave me alo

You can also play as populists. Shadowwarrior, How would I open the gfx file? you double click on it. at least thats how my computer works, I don't how yours does. but the "adress" kryo mentioned is correct.

I think laying mines should work like this, instead of placing individual mines manualy or having ship auto place them, you just hit the "place mines" button and then 5 random spaces that are within 2 spaces of the minelayer are mined. And a minelayer can't move the same week it places mines. Also if a mine lands on your trade route, your trade route should not end because the mines have sensors that tell friend from foe. And an enemy trade route with mines on it will end eventually any

I like this idea. But you shouldn't be able to close the thing, and it should be invisible - but still accessible - to foreign ships(should they accidentally stumble upon an entrance). Instead of you closing it, it should randomly close in a few weeks with you having no control over this, but this closure will allow you to re-establish a new wormhole whenever you want without building anything more. Any ships inside will get randomly kicked out of either end with 1 hp

I could make the original idea... but I can't code in the stuff aggiejohn mentioned, I can't make images either but there are alot of images in the gfx file that weren't used, just sift through that and maybe we'll find something.

I think a mine layer would work better because 1) you wouldn't have to build two starbases first 2) You could place them anywhere like in a ship hot spot or a freighter line.

Some very good ideas by Aggiejohn. I've noticed that there are a lot of different ideas that have flooded this thread, so maybe we could seperate this into a few seperate threads. This one will stay devoted to nebulas, asteroid feilds (not belts), ship graveyards etc. I've already started an extra thread called mines, we can put all the defensive ideas there like the defense grids. hold on while I create a link...

I got this idea from my "more celestial objects" thread. I was thinking of a minelayer that (lays mines duh). mines look like harmless asteriods that ram you and blow you up if you get to close (and you didn't lay them duh). what do you think?

Yea, if you want to talk more about it head to the thread in the modding page that I made which is basically exactly the same as this one except with more responses... hold on while I create a link...

basically I want to ask, how do fleet files work? do you need a special program? I would really like to change some fleet files because I've only seen two different fleet orginizations on the map. -me

No, this mod doesn't exist to my knowlege but if you want me to make it I can... or you could just spare me some time and do it yourself! lol. It sounds like a good idea for those people who have overpopulated planets, I rarely ever build farms unless I want that planet to be a major tax collection planet (like my economic capital), or if I plan to build troop transports there. In fact, I rarely research the farming techs. This incr
