xthetenth, if you do not have the x3100, what card do you have? Crazysix, thanks for the info. How are you testing the framerate? Fraps? Currently, the drivers for the x3100 have very different results between XP and Vista. Some games run much better under one OS. Vista has some issues with Hardware shaders not working in many games, however some of the newer games such as Call of Duty 4 run much better in Vista. I am using XP, but even if the performance is worse in XP, eventually inte

I am debating whether to pre-order Sins of a Solar empire. The only thing that is holding me back is my graphics card: the intel x3100. Yes, i KNOW this is not a gaming card, but its the first intel card with hardware shaders and it can play plenty of games. My processor is the T7300, and I have 2 gigs of ram. Using WinXP. Laptop, so I cannot upgrade my card :( Here is some examples of the x3100's performance: In 3dmark05: 700 points with Hardware shaders on, and 925 points in

In your opinion which 4x games have the best or worst AI? My top three (no particular order): Galciv2 Space Empires IV (with TDM-AI mod) Alpha Centauri (however, friends tell me that if you spend enough time with this game, its predictable and easy. Never got that way for me.) Worst AI Ascendancy Space Empires V (before it was patched, and not counting any of the new AI mods) MOO3 (to be honest, i just don't understand the AI in this game. Some

I just turned on 'enhanced ship rendering' in the video options menu and in the cluttered areas where i was getting 15fps zoomed all the way out (before the icons replace objects), I am now getting 22 fps. I've had 'enhanced ship rendering' turned off this whole time because I thought it would result in slower frame rates. Guess not...

I haven't decided whether I should pre-order TA because my graphics card might not be able to handle it. My card is the new intel x3100. I have 2 gigs of ram and a T7300 processor. I know this card is not a 'gaming' card, but it does at least have hardware shaders. In DA, on a medium map my frame rate is about 50 fps at the start of the game. However, later in the game, if the screen is cluttered with tradelanes, starbases, and over a dozen ships, it dips to 15fps, sometimes even 10 fps if I am

How playable is the current Beta of TA? Currently, how many things are missing from the downloadable version? Is it fun? Does it feel like an expansion yet or do you feel more like you are bug testing for the developers? I can't decide whether to wait until the final version or to jump on it now. Don't want to spoil the game for myself.

I have a notebook with the new intel x3100 gpu. This is part of the first intel series to have hardware shaders, but right now driver support sucks. The latest drivers (15.6 and 15.6.1) give me about half the frame rate that the 1.5.4.4 drivers did. When I run the game with the 15.4.4 drivers, I noticed in the debug that it was running in software mode, while after installing the new drivers, it detects and runs in hardware mode. Is there anyway I can force software mode so that I can use the ne

How come I can edit the prefs.ini in "My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar" to: [Video] DisplayWidth=1024 DisplayHeight=768 ColorDepth=16 Fullscreen=1 After starting a game and exiting Dark Avatar, it remains unchanged and still says 16 -bit color depth. Am I being deceived? I tried changing the resolution to 800x600 as well, which did have some effect but was unplayable due to improper scaling of some of the menus.

Ok, I dont understand why there is an option to uncheck this. If having this option on automatically detects whether or not your hardware supports the new modes, then there is no reason to turn it off. It will turn itself off if it isnt supported, if I am understanding it correctly. P.S. my err says its using software mode.
