Cities should be damaged when they are conquered, not just lose their population. The mechanic could strip off the most recently built buildings (or just those around the outside). The number of buildings destroyed could be commensurate with the fierceness of the battle (measured in terms of total HP lost). Alternatively, the buildings could just become "damaged" and require time/money to repair. While repairs were underway you would not be able to recruit or build n

What doesn't matter and takes up time and space is the ridiculous way that city building is handled that you are defending.
snippy. snippy. i just suggested that you ask about that feature in a different thread. then we could have a discussion about whether it mattered or not without being so rudely interrupted by people talk
Level a mage hero up a bit.
maybe with fire magic? i haven't seen it. this game has a balance issue like WoM did in that there's little challenge and every approach works. melee just happens to scale much faster and more effectively than magic.

So here's one of my champion's spell book. it seems like there's a lot of vertical space that could be put to better use displaying the spells. Here's one of my hero's with her jumble of abilities: "Burning hands" - melee ability "Disrupt" - utility function "Escape" - utility function "Fireball" - offensive spe

Haven't really built up a fire champion, but I almost never use offensive spells in this game because they do very little damage. My champion can summon lightning from the sky [e digicons]}:)[/e] and do almost as much damage as a standard melee from a bunch of low-level spearmen [e digicons]X([/e] . Haste, Grow & Shrink are pretty much the only powerful spells in the game. Which means that melee is the only way to win. You can toy around with other sp

I will jump in to defend the city building concept. Regressing to the Civ "all-cities-are-one-tile" idea is a non-starter in my opinion. The cities are beautiful things. You don't need to go crazy (or throw a unique feature into the scrapbin) to fix the problem. There are some really good ideas in this thread already. I like the idea of penalizing cities for sprawl. So the further from the city center the higher the maintenance. (Can't fin

I kinda like the city flowing organically out into the map. But then, I kinda place my buildings randomly (though sometimes I'll expand to swallow a nearby resource). So the overhead view doesn't help and it's less attractive. Plus it screws with the camera unless I click on "Done" which I don't always do. The overhead view just makes it clear to me how much the cities lack roads. From overhead, everything seems very isolated and the cities just

I get that the beasts try to avoid civilization but this is a little ridiculous. This umberdroth has been sitting in this corner of the map for 100s of turns. At first his territory was about 6 squares, then 4, then 2, and now just the one he's standing on. He's never attacked anyone so far as I can tell. And each time his territory shrinks he just retreats. He shows absolutely no aggression. He's cute. I kinda want to a

I am not very good at remembering the names of my AI opponents. So when [RANDOM AI #1] comes to me and says "I will give you 100 gold to declare war on [RANDOM AI #2]" I honestly have no idea if that is my uber strong neighbor or the guy from across the map. Suggestion #1. AI Negotiation requests should be made through the regular negotiation screen. An emissary can appear using the same Yes/No dialog you use now, but if you say Yes it just opens up the negotiation screen.

One of the items I collected in my travels was a scroll that promised to save me from peril. I quickly found myself in peril and used it. I was expecting the battle to end and my champion's army to return to the nearest city. The battle ended, the summary screen came up with "Defeat" and the opposing army "died" on the main map. So... um... instant win?
