I wanted to offer encouragement and mention that even within difficulties you can Really up the difficulty of a game, the options have a very wide range of effects on the difficulty of the game, in either direction. This wonderful array of setup options allows you to choose, in detail, or for it to choose for you. Some time ago i bought GalCiv based on the IGN review and was suitably impressed at how much better it was than MooIII. I'm a builder at heart, strugglign to force myself to war and once i sat down to play properly, having done my research, i picked a Huge/highest pre-expansion setting. I was well on course to victory when i hit the wall that is the amount of work to bring a huge game to a conclusion after having 'achieved effective victory'.
