To anyone who want to beat DL with ease: setup a new game(not campaign!) and select the senario 'DreadLord on parade'. At simple level, you can defeat DL before it can finish any ship or factory! The campaign may have built-in cheats that make DL super-poweful... (This is version 1.2)

I have tried almost everything except buying ships all the way from the beginning. I don't know how anyone can hold out the dreadlords using tactics suggested above. The problems: 1) Ship and Fleet building: forget it. DL's kills my ships easily, be it a cargo hull loaded with LaserV or fleet of tniy hull. The DL always use several frigates to blockade my planets and any ship built will be destroyed ASAP. 2) Fast ship take down DL's Transport? No way. The DL always send in escort
