Depression can often set in at random. And sever depression may have many unknown causes and influences, some even from repressed memories. So in the end, he could've been severly depressed from the past not the present.

Its FOX news, I mean what do you exect. A rather famous comedian put it this way. "You know, fantasy movies aren't selling well at all these days. I guess whenever people want to see some real fiction they turn on FOX news" Plus, never trust what the news says about any research, they always overdramatize it.
