It sounds like you let your populations get too big. Your people can breed up to a point where your morale will just drop to around 40%, and if you are moving the tax slider you might end up with a morale closer to 20%. If your population per world was around 22billion, you would have needed 20 VR centers, not 4-5 to counteract the effects. To get around this problem, never build more than 1 farm per planet, and never use any population bonus tiles. This should keep most of your popu

I'll look into it. To tell you the truth, I was really busy this weekend so I just played through a few 1.5x.whatever games, rather than trying to sink my teeth into the new stuff. I'll let you know what I find. As far as techs gained through invasions previously, several things I noticed. If you know many many more techs than the AI, your chance of stealing seems to drop drastically. If you both have plenty of techs the other side doesn't know, or if the AI has a major tech advanta
Alright, well just for you Metaverse Council members, I've also added a tag line for what you are doing to the top post. I look forward to your new bracket system. V.
Does anyone know when Kryo is going to be back around?
Yeah, and I think I'm going to take back my claim about higher morale effecting score, at least enough to matter. This last weekend I played three games where I purposefully kept my approval at 20-30% all game after about year 2, except for turns where I needed to spike it. Not only did my social score not go down, the huge increase in money led to all of my scores but tech increasing . By just killing my people with tax, I almost broke 100k on a small map. So, in DA, morale
Thanks Iztok. I didn't know I could do that. Well, now the main post can stay current and give information as things progress. I did extend this to the end of April. I look forward to seeing your contribution(s) Iztok. Until we chat again sir, I bid you goodevening. <a href="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/ch
Hey, I'm happy to extend the time. I just wanted to run one to get my feet, see the response I got, and work out some of the problems. Problem one, perhaps, is too short a time frame. I have a few more of these planned, and only this first one is DA only, the rest will be open to DL/DA so there should be more people who can contribute. What do people think? Want me to extend it to say the end of April. April 7th - April 30th, with tally and results posted on May 1? I'd be open to
Thanks for noticing Alex. I continue to deconstruct the scoring formulas. Each section I get nailed down is another piece I can then exploit and maximize while in game. I *almost* managed to break 100k on a small map...(97650) I think given one more shot I can do it. But ya never know. The one I did it on only generated 72 colonies. Give me two more colonies on the map and I think I would have gotten it. We are really starting to gain ground on the Diplomats. I wish both of us
Well, winning a few games quick isn't so hard when you are playing with smaller maps. Two smalls and a tiny over a weekend is hardly an accomplishment to brag about... but I was busy entertaining my woman for much of the holiday. As far as killing yourself to post a suicidal... not sure what to say. If you haven't done it before, I think it would be better to just go through a few games on a difficulty you are comfortable with. Quantity will probably outdo quality given that I'm ju
A small skirmish along outlying moons lead to a follow up victory for the Krynn. The Krynn morale has not been shaken by the quick and powerful response by the Korath. But the war is early, and has started slow. A few skirmishes on small, outlying systems will not decide the war. Strategists predict that the real fighting has not yet begun.
Look at the strength of their attack though. They must have knocked you out in just 2-3 rounds. How was your attack distributed. How much of it came from bonus points? If a lot of it had to do with a +% to weapons, just getting unlucky in the first round could easily lead to this result. How was their 71 missile defense distributed? What was the defense on their highest attack/hp ship? It could mean there is a problem, but just from one battle you could have just gotten un
Undaunted by the Krynn sneak attack, the Korath have already started to push back. Their first offensive was a decisive defeat along one of the smaller border galaxies.
Yes, you can post more than one game. Post as many as you like with these two races over the next two weeks.
The first shots have already been fired, and resulted in victory for the Krynn.
Korath v. Krynn Tournament For the rest of April I'm running an unofficial tournament between these two races. All players who own DA are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Scene The Korath were part of the Drengin Empire, but their determination to exterminate non-Drengin life rather than enslaving them has made them even more dangerous as a foe. The Korath war machine has advanced mercilessly across the universe. Whole civilizations ha
Ah, well sorry I misunderstood your first post Mumble. Again, my mistake. I apologize to the council for any problem. And I don't want to take Kryo's time away from "official" business. I've looked through the high scores, and Stardock already sorts things by both date and race (if you choose) which means the functionality is there. It may not be appropriate for me to get a copy, but I think I could do everything myself if I just had the information to access the meta data f
Clearly if you haven't heard of us then we really haven't done a very good job. Oh, um, well, I wasn't trying to insult you. I just hang out on these forums a lot while I'm at work, and I'm kind of between major trials right now so I have a little more dead time. The brackets sound like a good idea. The major point of what we're trying to do is to work on things that are realistically achievable. Alway
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly IS the metaverse council? I don't think I've ever seen anything credited to that as a group. I thought the Altmeta was just Kryo's little baby. Well, and of course Stardock is working on 1.6 right now. I guess I was more throwing the idea out there so it could be bounced around, and then eventually a very specific (easy to implement) request could be made of Stardock, which then they might or might not listen to. Does your "bracket" sys
For all those of you who have the expansion, the two new races are really very powerful. They also happen to match up against each other very nicely. If you haven't looked: Korath Weapons +25% Morale +25% Military Production +25% Hit Points +20% Soldiering +10% Logistics +7% 10 ability points vs. Krynn Economics +10% Defense +50% Morale +50% Diplomacy +25% Espionage +50% Loyalty +25% Logistics +6%<
You don't want a 21%-40% approval rating? Why, may I ask? Because of revolts. In this range, planets will defect. True, in some cases that might not matter... but that is the reason for me. And these are the quotes of two masters of the game, checked your meta and altmeta stats both... wow! I'm flattered, but don't put too much stock on score. Magnumaniac has achieved much higher scores than me, my o
Also, this is exactly why I give people who insist you can only play with Ctrl-N a hard time. You simply do not. A very few starting positions are not playable because you start out on an island with nothing for a few sectors, but that is very rare. People who think they need a +700% tile to play on suicidal should try getting better at obscene first. At least my opinion. The Thalans are also excellent at this type of start because of super hive, and the +10% morale boost for the ho
Bravo Wargazmo! Good job on cracking this. It is very similar to the strategy I use with the Krynn, although I was doing 2 turn speed five cargo hull colonizers. This might work better, I hadn't ever tried using smalls. I've said before and I'll say again, games are won or lost in the first year... at least on higher difficulties. You are doing great, I would like to offer just one piece of advice for the next time you play the Krynn, which should help you out more. As you noticed,
Mumblefratz - jynx! Great minds think alike, fools rarely differ...
You would see about a 16% drop in morale per world, so they would still breed. You only need a 60% for all forms of government (I usually play Federation), AND only on the individual week when a vote takes place. Once you no longer require your pops to breed, you can run at a 41% and then up to a 60% on turns that votes take place for maximum income. Hope that helps. <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalac
