well, for the same reason we sometimes have trouble identifying animals without unique indetifying features we can easily use (such as tail spots on whales, etc, but even then thats what scientists use) and we have our own subtle identifying features, aliens would have identifying features of thuer own that they can easily observe but we can't observe very well. That and the designers can't really make thousands of different individual pics for the same species.

not in the demo, you can only play as the Terrans in the demo. but in the full game, I know you can do whatever race you want, even make custom races not sure about the stats thing though.
also, the forums don't update the threads when someone has recently posted in them say like 5 minutes ago and its still not up near the top of the board and instead it takes like a half hour or more sometimes for it to update those threads. every forum I've been to puts the newest posts at the top of the board immediately, while there is an annoying delay here of well, a long time....
/bump cmon!, dang forum isn't updating properly
Oh, here's the best early shipbuilding tip -- on turn one, after moving your colony ship, upgrade it to the new 3-speed one you designed. It costs about 50 bc and is ready the next week. A player can design buy a 4-move
cool! which victory did you get?
what about the Terrans as an AI? sounds like alot of you guys are playing as the Terrans often times.
great, the forum wierded out on me when I posted and had to back up and now I can't edit my origional post I meant that the diplomacy part of GalCivII is better than the diplomacy part of the AI in Civ4 edit: OOPS! I see my double post up there, no idea how that happened, I was posting and then it gave me an error and I backed up, and dunno...
the diplomacy part of the AI is better in GalcivII (in the demo at least, I'm sure its revamped in the main game through patches, etc) and I find that its more interactive and somewhat more feedback.

/bump anybody know about this stuff? I'm just curious.
well I'm doing the demo atm and so only have access to small maps, but I guess I can try doing some of those suggestions. besides, sometimes its nicer to design your own ships
in that newbies guide MKII, they said: FAST COLONIZER - In the ship designer, pick a cargo hull. Put a colony module on it and as many engines as you can make fit. If there is room left over, put on life support modules. This is the ship you'll send to planets near the other civs. Hopefully you can beat them there. There's nothing more frustrating than sending
I don't think so, even in the demo you can't colonize class 0 planets which are uninhabitable. it makes sense because some of those class 0 planets are gas giants. although, I wish I could have some kind of mining station to use to put on those class 0 planets, even if they are uninhabitable, they could still have useable resources. but right now, you just can't and the closest thing would be if a space resource happens to be in or pretty close to a star system with no habitable plane
it does now. when you make a terran design, it stays with that ship graphic set. once you buy the game, there are so many great updates ok, cool, just what I needed to know I figured it was a demo issue (you know how demos are usually buggy....)
1. Fix the quote function. There is nothing wrong with the quote function. Highlight the text you want to quote, hit quote, voila, quote added to post. Yes, but in ALL other fourms I have been too, the Quote button simply quoted every work in the post you pressed it on. And since thats the way it usually work thats the way people expect it to work
like I said, this is likely something only in the demo because I don't see anybody else saying about that problem in the main game.
this is likely a problem only with the demo, but when I design something for say the Terran hull, but then in the next game switch to Drengin hull (which is pretty cool actually) and get to the techs that I get the ship at, it does show up, but its all messed up and the jewlery is all scrambled around. So is there a way to keep saved ship designs unique to that hull type because otherwise it gets all messed up.
ah, so the main game cheats WILL work for the demo? I mainly just want them for the chance to play around with the hulls more.
I'm just curious as to what the other racial hulls look like because in the demo while I can see the Drangin, Terran, and Altarian racial hulls, I can't see the Torian or Yor hulls. So is there anyplace I can look at the individual hulls? I'm curious because I have an idea for a custom race and even though I'll probably be using Kryo's shipbuilder mod when I get the game for my B-Day on June 2nd anyway I'm not sure if I'll use the racial hulls only or what, and I'm curious in general.
maybe its because they have good racial traits/abilities. the only race you can play are the Terrans, although you will have the Drengin, Altarians, and the Arceans available as AI civs.
hehe, yea, they have what looks like a squashed horseface and they are reptillian. I'm new here though and haven't gone through the forums much and I'm not sure what you mean that ppl are talking about the Drath alot.
*wonders whats with the ppl doing accidential double posts . nothing against you, its just a wierd forum* since the demo doesn't have all the stuff that the full game has, makes sense that the game cheats wouldn't work for the demo. I don't know of any demo cheats, but if there are some, that would be cool because then I can explore the shipbuilder some more <img src="http://images.stardock.com
although the links aren't working right in database section for races for some reason and you need to be registered to IGN to see the pics maybe if you look on gamespot's page for GalCivII.
yea, in the databanks on this site and in the civilizations section of it.
