So I'm just getting back into the game after a long hiatus, as the initial version at launch failed to grab my attention like GalCiv II: Twilight of the Arnor. I'm playing on the largest size galaxy with only 8 races, no minors. I have all settings set to VERY SLOW and have habitable planets set to rare (currently I have 4 planets settled, as do the Torians, the first race I've encountered) But anyway, I'm finding the pacing to just be too fast even

As I said, when the game first launched I felt even the slowest setting was too quick. So you'd get lasers or whatever and then a few turns later they're obsolete. I was hoping since launch they've made adjustments to the settings so when you discover technologies they actually have an impact individually and stick around for awhile on ships, etc. rather than being obsolete a handful of turns later.

It's been awhile since I played. When it first came out I felt even the slowest settings allowed me to research technologies too quickly. I want to play where when you get a new tech it sticks around for awhile and has some impact, rather than it becoming obsolete in just the span of a few turns. Have subsequent patches since launch made "slow" research or building times or whatever actually slow, or are there any mods you'd recommend?

Just started playing with Beta 3 and shortly into my campaign had the game just freeze up on the map, couldn't click anything or exit out of the game without using CTRL-ALT-DEL. Some details I hope help: Radeon 7870 2GB Intel Core i5 8 GB Ram Playing as the Humans on a Large map with ALL the AI added as opponents. Left the other settings at default when playing. Happened a few turns in, somethin

I was just playing as the Krynn and wasn't really getting any tech steals and then I tossed maybe 10 spies onto the Terran Earth planet and the next turn I stole their Cultural Conquest tech. So it looks like there is definitely a coorelation between putting spies onto a planet improvement and obtaining techs. I'm assuming this may only occur when you spy on research style buildings but I'm not sure. Anyone in the know on all of this for tech steals?

I agree that it would be nice to have a list of the unique techs and abilities for each race so that we can choose who we want to play and adjust our strategies accordingly. I don't know that they need to redo an entire manual. Just an addendum with the new info would be a welcome addition. I purchased both expansion packs so I could get access to the Arnor updates, hopefully our interest in this product will be appreciated enough to release a document detailing the unique rac
One time the AI asked me for "Tree Fitty". I woulda given it to him to avoid war, but right when I was about to capitulate, I noticed that the "Korath Ambassador" was really a 15 story-tall creature from the Paleolithic Era. So I said, "Dammit Lochness Monsta, I aint givin' you no tree fitty! Get off my porch!""I gave him a dollar.""D**n it woman! No wonder he keeps coming back"
He tricked me!
Lame. I've tried contacting Stardocks offices in MI directly and both the sales department and the tech support go to voicemail. What kind of garbage is this?
Around 12:15pm EST actually (i.e. just now) and the sales, tech support AND dial zero for an operator were all going to voicemail. :SNIFF!:

Argh, that's what I get for not taking your advice. I couldn't wait, just made the purchase through my Stardock Central account. Paid via PayPal, but that's linked to a different email address. So now when I go try and download via Stardock Central all I see is the "purchase" button available on the expansion packs. Grumble grumble :( Sent an email to [email protected] so hopefully I'll get a reply soon rather than having to wait until next week.

I haven't played Gal Civ II in quite some time. I absolutely loved the game, then purchased Sins of a Solar Empire and was completely turned off. While that game is more visually appealing, I found the gameplay to be rather boring and bland, with too much sameness in the races ships and not as compelling exploration or gameplay as Gal Civ II. Now this new expansion is out, but I never got Dark Avatar. I know I can get both expansions in a bundle for $45. Is t

Another issue that may have hurt me is I had turned off pirates. Now that I have them back on, that seems to be helping to slow the tide and/or encourage the two AI opponents to bid against one another sometimes. I did set all three of us to separate teams and lock them. I honestly don't recall if I'm getting missions since I've played so many damn games only to get hemmed in by both massive fleets in my previous attempts that I'm not sure right now. Anyway, things running mu

Hmmmm.......perhaps I need to "lock" the teams, maybe that is the problem. I haven't done that, just set them to Team 2 and Team 3 and played the game. And it always seems they both gang up on me. I've played the same on the Medium setting, but that's too easy. And on the hard setting I just can't hold onto my territories, too much micro-management with sending my fleets back and forth to defend from yet another massive assault. I wind up setting my smaller fleet to hold pos

So I'm trying to play a single star map, Centrifuge. I put the Advent on Hard Researcher. And the Vasari on Hard Aggressor. I'm playing as the TEC. I used colony frigates to establish mining in the uncolonizable asteroid belts since the AI seems to ignore your mining operations there and thus I don't need to make efforts to defend the territory. I also turtled on my home world and established significant defensive structures to assist my fleet when the AI bri

I hate how Sins has carrier vessels that only carry fighter craft and don't have any weaponry of their own to defend themselves. Just seems silly to build a ship with no defenses other than strike craft. Ideally for a Star Wars mod I would expect to see the Mon Calimari Cruisers, the Nebulon-B Frigates, etc. It would be nice if the x-wings, tie fighters, etc. could be a little larger and easier to see on the screen, and obviously larger squadron sizes or more squadrons available on va
Change the slot the AI player is in for any map and it will affect his starting position. In Aerolian sector the second slot should start him in other system though I can't quite recall the exact algorithm used in beta 4.
Ah, I think the problem was I selected one of the other nations further down, since I didn't want to the Vasari to be named "The Trade Coalition". So I can't recall which nation I picked, but I guess I just got unlucky and snagged the one that wo
