It would be cool if you could put more than 1 construction module on a constructor - then use those multiple modules to get multiple SB upgrades with 1 constructor. Personally though I'd prefer it if upgrading a starbase was like mining asteroids. IE it didn't consume the constructor, just took time to upgrade. That way you wouldn't have to build 100s of constructors every time you wanted to make a starbase.

Hi! Does this mean that the game will randomise the opponent AI up to tough level? AFAIK it's "though" +/- a level of two. BTW don't do that on crippling. Some AIs may get up to "incredible", and that's the setting for maso games with 100% AI bonus to econ, production and research vs. 25% bonuses at "crippling". Maso AIs will be so dominant other AIs will never stand a chance. BR, Iztok </d

This is why I hate huge maps. Usually on anything bigger than large I usually just get bored and cop out with a tech victory once there's no doubt that I'll win.

A good example of that problem is neverwinter nights. I wanted to play that but no, no multiplayer mission There are lots of persistent worlds out there that are multiplayer, i.e. worlds that you can log on to and play on that are maintained by fans. Whether it's action, roleplaying or whatever you're into there's 100s of them out there and most of them are pretty massive with quests and 100s of hours of gameplay. That's actually the majority of where my

But when I've read about taxes at 80% with planets at 11B without single morale building, I tried that approach, and will be using it until the game mechanics changes see that is just absurd to me... no population no matter how "entertained" could stand for that kind of universal tax rate, what good is the best entertainment in the universe if I have no money with which to buy it?! </div

If you set anomolies to abundant you can pull this rush off with any race at all (except iconians, they only get 7 points) because the anomolies will finance you until you get your economy up and running. I've found it works best with Thalans because you can actually build up your homeworld while you're rushing, and then eventually get to building 6 speed cargo hull colony ships in 1 turn <b

I like the idea of giving away a planet like that. I wonder, though, whether it would be possible to use the tactic more offensively. Load the planet up with extremely high-maintenance buildings and then offer it as a trojan horse to your opponent. When it comes back to you, just give it away again to someone else. Granted, the opponent would benefit from the output of those buildings, but if it destroys their economy at the same time, that might b

Yeah I've never thought trade was really worth it in short games either, other than the first level for the econ capital and diplomacy bonus. On bigger maps I'll usually have one planet that I nominate as the trade planet, I'll usually put it next to my research world so it benefits from the econ starbases I have around there anyway and make it produce nothing but traders. Trade though, is actually more useful as a diplomacy tool than the money you get from it. You can often get ++ in the r

I really enjoyed reading this. Gave me some good insight, the flip strategy is something I've never really thought of doing but it looks like a pretty good plan. I've got a couple of questions: When you switched over to factories, you said you focused all your worlds on research.... does this mean planets full of factories set to research, produce more overall (empire wide) total production than say having specialized planets (tech capital full o labs/manu capital full o facto

It really depends on the galaxy size and the research speed that you select. If you play on gigantic galaxies with very fast tech it's possible to complete a tech victory before the colony rush is over. This is not particularly challenging. If you play on tiny galaxies with very slow tech you could probably wipe out all opposition 10 times before you could complete a tech win, this is pretty tedious. Somewhere between these two

I like it myself, in games you are dominating it gives you an easy way to seal the deal without the monotony of grinding the game out for hours when you've clearly won anyway. In games you're losing it gives you a chance at clutching victory from the jaws of defeat - I remember stealing a tech victory once with 3 planets left, still one of the most exciting games I've ever played. I always leave TV on.

thetraviler, the Torian AI is horrible and in no way should be a reflection of the effectiveness of the Torians from a player's perspective. Last game I played with a Torian AI in it they had researched up to industrial sectors but still were running round with small hulled ships doing 8 damage. Not surprisingly they were getting stomped by the Drengin. They were just lucky I came in and "liberated" them before they could be enslaved.

Is there some trick to using it right? Lots of offense, speed and miniturization. Pick +2 speed and +20% weapons, and then put no engines and cram lots of weapons onto every ship. Any turn a super warrior ship attacks, any ships it destroys in the first round do not fire back. This makes the dreaded cargo hull killers viable, you don't need any hitpoints, just guns. The weakness of the super wa

Nerfing spore ships is not a solution. They're incredible. But they're not better than the Super Breeder, the Super Hive, or the Super Warrior, all of which give incredible advantages, espically when the player changes their play style to take maximize those advantages. I agree about super hive and super breeder but super warrior? I played as the arceans and didn't even notice I even had the ability, and I've never had a problem fighting enemy Arcean fle

It's definitely a powerful super, but I'd rather not see it nerfed, if the Korath are overpowered then take away some of their points or other abilities. 1) no matter what population the attacked planet has, it's all destroyed --> no need for invasion tech(s), --> no need for lots of troops --> no need for high growth --> very high taxes possible. I find the same thing with tidal disruptors, wit

Just a question, but do you really want to be friends with the Altarians? You're more than likely to get dragged into a war you don't want to be in if they get attacked. Actually that's a good point. The thing with the Altarians is you CAN say no but it makes you go to war anyway. Whether this is a bug or not I don't know.

Maybe I'm slow (to use Torians, at least), but I just now noticed that Super Breeder seems to be the only Super ability where the Custom Race is stronger than the stock race. That's probably because they nerfed the Torians' morale bonus a little ways' back, and they're giving the custom races 15 points, now. The main reason I like the custom better is you can pick both +2 speed and +20 morale. Torians real

I mostly see constructive criticism posted here, and the developers have said they appreciate that. The few actual complaints I see are from people who play the game for a week, hate it, post their thoughts and then you never see them again. Generally the more people you see criticizing a game the better the game is, because it means the fans feel it's worth spending time outlining how the game can be improved. The only exception to this is when a game is overhyped or is a sequel t

I'm really trying hard to get a suicidal game in for this challenge, but I just can't seem to find a winning tactic. I get off to a good start but as soon as I wipe out the first guy I get a bad rep and pretty soon the entire galaxy declares war on me, even if I have a good military. On the other hand if I play passively the other AIs just get so far ahead, even if I bribe them into constant conflict with each other. My hat goes off to you guys who can win on suicidal, it's da

To take a screenshot, hit the printscreen button which saves the screenshot to the clipboard and then you can paste it into Phtotshop or MS Paint. An easier way is to download a program like Hoversnap that will automatically save it as a .jpg file when you press printscreen.
