Good question.Don't upgrade your home planet. That's 200 crystal right there Forgot to mention it, will edit.
But if you want to guarantee the first crystal bid then you won't have time to check the price, you just hammer ctrl-F6 as soon as you start the game. This means it's pretty much a lottery who gets it if both players use the hotkey.
1) Buy 300 crystal. (300 is the most you can buy without it delaying your start due to lack of credits) 2) build cap factory, crystal extractor and increase pop cap on homeworld simultaneously. Queue up your cap ship. 3) Build scout and then another scout when you have the money. Send scouts out as soon as they come out. 4) Queue up your two metal extractors when you have the money (you should hit 250 just before your crystal extractor finishes building) and then
Ok I think I got it now. So culture raises the cap by 10%, but you don't necessarily need the broadcast center in order to get culture, however if you're near enemies you'll probably want one.
Okay so the broadcast center doesn't even raise the allegiance cap, it just increases the rate at which you reach it? So basically unless you're specifically trying to flip planets or are getting owned by enemy culture this building isn't really worth building.
Broadcast center is supposed to raise your allegence by 10% right? This would give you 10% more income from that planet. Wouldn't it just be more profitable to use that logistics slot for a trade center instead? Given trade centers generate around 1.5-3 credits each depending on the size of your empire, which is far more than 10% of any planets tax income.
I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the reduction in income from planets further out is somewhat counter balanced by the increased income from trade the larger your empire is. The larger you make your trade lines stretch the more income you get per trade building. While I haven't played on huge yet, the large game I recently finished I was at max fleet and had no problem making money. That said, considering the game still can take a very long time to finish even once you
ok, cause I did a 4 player FFA but didn't get any of the achievements. Although I did befriend one of the AIs so that's probably why it didn't work.
Triple phase inhibitor's jump delay time and have i effect the entire grav well in addition to Kade's above post.
Just want to say I agree with this suggestion.
Just wondering, with achievements that require you to beat multiple hard AIs, do you need to have all the AIs on the same team or can it be in a FFA?
Actually, in games like chess, you have to plan and wait for the opponent a lot. And the wait can be excruciating.
But even in chess there's many places I can go to play a 10 min a side game if I want, both online and off. Even professional chess games last for 3-4 hours max.
dunno why people are against adding this. It's not like the game is forcing you to play against the cheating AI. More options can't hurt, if people want the option of harder AI settings why should it be denied, especially if it can be fairly simply introduced (like just adding a new difficulty setting above hard where the hard AI has more money) One of the things that kept me playing galactic Civ for so long was the fact that the harder AI settings were really challenging. If the
Actually if it was real, REAL time then it would take years to travel to other planets and hundreds of years to colonise them. But that's just being silly. I agree that it couldn't hurt to have faster settings. I mean by all means keep the normal settings but put the faster settings there for people who only have a couple of hours a night free. Saving games is fine but it's always a hassle to have to organise times to finish off games, especially if they're random pic
I agree that the pirates are fairly easy to fend off, but the OP is 100% right in that it's better to let the AI deal with them in the early game, especially the first couple of attacks. Fending off the first few pirate attacks will delay your colonisation strategy, sure you'll gain levels but you can gain those levels by killing neutrals around other planets so there's no real advantage here. On the other hand by sending them to the AI you cripple their colonising and give yoursel
I had similar issues with SDC at first, I just grabbed the game via bit torrent and used the CD keys I got in the email. Having said that I've had no problem updating with SDC and will surely purchase Sins of a Solar empire this way if I like the demo.
I think the reasons for not giving the AI diplomatic victory are as follows: When a human player wins in a Diplomatic Victory I think story-wise it's still presumed that the universe continues after the game is finished with all the civilizations going about their merry way and living in harmony with each other. So conversely even if the AI "wins" a diplomatic victory everyone else including the human player should have the freedom to keep going about their business without the uni
Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew whether research bonuses from either mining Starbases or ability picks are counted towards research focused from factories, or whether it's just applied to the research generated from labs. In my current game all my research is coming from factories and focus, but there's two research resources nearby and I'm just wondering whether it's worth it to build them up. Also, in the same game, I've got 3 morale resources. Is it worth
Nice write up. I'm tagging this for future reference.
Actually, just to be nit-picky, I would say that Myst has the clicky-puzzle-type-game genre dominated about as well as StarCraft has the RTS genre.
I dunno most people I've spoken to about that genre never mention Myst, it's all about the old school Lucas Arts games. Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Monke
The game is definitely easier with tech trading on, however tech trading is really, really, really boring and I usually turn it off for that reason. What really irks me about tech trading is in order to get the most out of it you have to trade each tech individually. For example you won't get nearly as much cash for trading 10 techs as a package as you would for trading each tech 1 by 1. And because there's no way of sorting techs by value or any other means except alphabetical yo
Obviously if you're not into Multiplayer RTS games then you won't enjoy Starcraft for much more than the time it takes to finish the campaign, and you'll probably prefer other games. However, while one can't compare Starcraft to non-RTS games directly I think it's important that Starcraft has dominated its genre far more than any game ever created, it's for that reason that I would find it hard to disagree that SC is the best game ever made. Starcraft is by far the best m
Surely the correct answer should be "when it's done", that means if it's not ready then it's not ready whether that's December, January, February is irrelevant. Let's not turn Stardock into one of those companies that releases buggy, unfinished games just to meet deadlines. Besides it's no loss to the players if it doesn't come out until next year, we can still play the beta. Stardock may lose money in the short term by waiting but one only needs to look at the success of compa
Wow I can't believe someone dug this thread up. Just so you guys I was a noob when I wrote this strat and you should check out the one turn per ship strat I wrote for a better starting strat. like others have said you don't really get enough planets peace
I tried it the way I normally play and it didn't make a lick of difference. But I've heard if you build pure offensive ships it's quite good. That said, it only works when you attack first, so if you take out an enemy fleet and there's other enemy fleets around then you're screwed becasue your ships won't have any defence and will get owned by the computer fleets.
MMOs are ingeniously designed to exploit a weakness in the human psyche. Everyone that plays them gets addicted to some degree. This is somewhat true for all games, however other games actually have an ending. Without closure there's nothing to stop people from playing, just an endless supply of goals. The worst thing about MMOs is the more you play, the more addicted you become so the more you play. Eventually in game acheivements mean more than real life acheivements, and the fr
