Thanks for the response, CariElf. Actually, I was looking at getting one of those Targus things. I'd rather not give up GalCiv, honestly. I'll post the results if that helps.
If a computer restarts to overheating, it's broken. Obviously, not all programs are capable of stressing the system so much that it overheats. But on a proper system you could even install programs which would deliberately try to overheat without causing any problems. For example GC2 is quite memory and CPU intensive, while afaik Crysis is heavy on your GPU instead. Different usage patterns exhibit different hardware issues. [/quo
Broken hardware, I'd return it to the manufacturer if warranty hasn't expired yet.
Eh, I don't think it's broken, per se. GalCiv2 is the only game that makes my computer do this. Other games like Crysis don't. I would think GC2 wouldn't need more resources than that game. I'm hoping it's a memory issue!
I've noticed that this seems to behave like a heat issue. On a cold startup I was able to play without problems for three hours. Then it restarted the first time. After that, it would restart sporadically every few minutes like it has been. Other graphically-intense games don't make my laptop do this (Crysis, Call of Duty 4, The Witcher), and I keep the graphic settings in the medium to high range. Still, I'm enjoying the game as much as I can. The redesign is brillian
Thanks for the tip Kryo! I tried it, but it still rebooted after a couple of minutes. I'm having the same problem with the same setup (XP SP2, Radeon X1600 256MB, all current drivers). I play Sins of a Solar Empire, Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Supreme Commander, Pirates of the Burning Sea Beta, etc...many many current games with tricked out graphics. GalCiv is the only game that this is happening with. Please help! Thanks much! Here is my debug.err file: ****************************************************** Debug Message: Version v1.80g
I do notice those cards. I'll have to explore them a bit. Thanks! That will probably take care of things.
Whoops, I mean three suggestions. ;)
First post. I'm a very big fan of how open Stardock is to fan input. It's very refreshing. Anyway, ass-kissery aside... I had three quick suggestions. Please forgive me if any have been asked already. I've been reading the forums for a few days, but haven't scanned through every page. 1) Save game date/time stamp ----- Could we get a date/time stamp on saved games? I have four or five saves for every game and, especially when I can't play for a few days, I forget which i
I like this idea too...definitely would be good if it took a little push to tip a planet over. I also am a little hesitant at how culture is weaponized currently.
I just got the beta today and played through a 1v1 vs. the computer. On my first impressions...I REALLY like the blend between automation and micromanagement. I love how fleets to go business without me having to babysit them, I like how they defend systems without babysitting, etc. I also like how involved Stardock is with player feedback. Very nice! I'll be posting more. Love the touches on settled planets, the civilian ships buzzing around, in orbit. I'm a big fan o
Absolutely LOVE the mod, rav!! If you get the chance, could you put it up on a couple of other mirrors? Verzend always times out on me I really liked GalCiv2 before, now I adore it!!
Something that I've wanted since MOO is backgrounds to the interface showing city scenes. They could just be some pre-rendered scenes, on a loop like a DVD menu. Just something to give the impression that the player is in the universe instead of just a screen jockey. You know, like what was going on in the background of Corosceant (Jedi forgive my spelling!!!) in the new Star Wars films. They'd be subtle, blurred maybe (shallow depth of field), behind the interface. Now, I'd put some el
