It is a great update. The game plays much nicers and I like the new Demigods. Unit voices is one thing Blizzard have always done well. I would actually prefer not to have the announcer voice, I find it quite annoying in every game. cl_downloadfilter "no sounds". Could we have an option to turn it off?
LOLCHRIST
Or first death, perhaps? Maybe there could be an achievement for being the first person killed in a game, but coming back from it to be most valued player.
Having played another couple of games since posting, I think that sometimes not being able to buy upgrades that show as available happens when resolution is set to 'windowed'.
I've said it so many times that people are probably fed up with it now, but I would really like to be able to upgrade my skills while I am dead. If not that, then I would like to at least be allowed to look at the tree and read the descriptions. A nice bonus would be to allowed to look through the item shop descriptions as well. The developers have said that they would like people to be able to just jump in and play a game of Demigod without playing practice matches. As things stands,
I suspect it will be possible, but modelling and animating a new character is a process which requires a lot of time and skill.
I think it is somewhat traditional for Gods to be the ones doing the smiting ;)
I find that often I am repeatedly unable to buy upgrades for my citadel. Even though I have enough gold, a high enough war rank, and the icon is highlighted, clicking on it has no response (except the noise plays). Often when this happens, I will find I am able to buy one of the other upgrades instead. The mouse cursor does change from the pointer to the other thing when i hover over what I want to buy. I'm not sure if this is down to lag, or the clicking translating onto something in
I did read something about Linux computers being sold with the terminal/command line disabled. If it is now feasible for Linux to be used without learning commands, then it's well on its way to a broader audience..
I wouldn't want to be clearing up after disease all the time, in the same way that I hate it in the Total War games when I'm constantly struggling against rebellion as I approach the 50-province mark. Or the stupid stack of workers automated to clean pollution in Civ 3. I'm not saying that this is what anyone's suggestions are leading to, just that it needs to be kept in mind.
Well I think that's a case of Asus misnaming what is actually a rather nice small laptop in order to ride the coattails of the netbook fashion. It is good to hear that the GeForce mobile cards are more capable than I had thought though.
I would suspect that your 8200M would be an integrated chip on the motherboard rather than a separate card, which may make upgrading difficult.
In the keys tab of the option screen, the Minion Control and Miscellaneous column is pushed off too far to the right. This varies depending on the resolution I select. For example: 1024*768 is correct; 1152*864 pushes it outside of the box where it belongs, but it's still all visible; all the 1280*x resolutions push it past the edge of the screen. Playing with it in windowed mode, the vertical resolution makes no difference. The smallest possible horizontal resolution is fine, increas
Are technology tree and spellbook selection tied together then? I can't help but think it'd be better to allow us to choose each independently, so we can try out different combinations.
When you talk about diseases being life magic, you're assuming that the world of Elemental would use the germ theory of disease. Maybe, in Elemental, disease is caused by miasma, vapours, the humours being out of balance, bad chi, evil spirits, or magic.
A couple of things I picked up on. How do you know if the Windows source code is bloated when it isn't open source? Consider that Linux is also a monolithic system, not a micro-kernal + modules setup. I would agree with a more limited version though: Windows certainly is held back by having to support/provide consistency with choices made in previous versions in anumber of cases. Also, having a separate UI layer apart from the kernel is a good thing. The second thing: "So, how do I re
If you could get one with one of the GeForce 9400M graphics chips it might be ok for games which aren't very demanding. The amount of RAM would still be a worry though: Civ 4, for example, will probably not run large maps very well with only 1GB.
I would recommend exercise. Not just a set of press-ups or something, find something that will keep your working for a good couple of hours. Afterwards, go home, maybe have a quick snack, but go to bed early. You will have a fantastic night's sleep and probably wake up at a sensible time. The other thing you can do is to only draw one of your curtains, so that the light wakes you up in the morning.
You know the DS has wifi anyway, right?
I notice the office looks a bit cubically. How do you find that, compared to a setup without the dividing walls? (Obviously I don't know what Stardock has at home.)
I picked up the demo, liked it, bought it, played through it, and enjoyed it. I recall the game reviewd rather well, but somehow it's marketing push was more or less stillborn. Couple of mild complaints: the story was good, but there were a lot of twists and changes in objective over the course of it, so I felt like I was being a bit rushed. I would have preferred to spend a bit more time and a few more levels at each part to flesh it out. The combat...I'm sure that something clever a
Don't have too much fun, remember to get some work done. Looking forward to seeing the results of your labour.
A public beta is a marketing exercise as well as a wide bug-test. But I broadly agree with the thrust of your post.
Regarding the Sauron's Eye idea (which would be renamed for obvious legal reasons), I think there is a lot of material in the book to draw up a really interesting power. The eye moves from place to place, and cannot see everything at once. It also has has an effect on the people being observed: it intimidates them, weakens them, to some extent tempts them (they feel compelled to surrender). So, the eye might focus on a particular individual, army, or area. It would drain willpower (or
Too much explanation spoils the magic. I think being ineffable is probably the crucial point of magic. It should work as Luther's description of reason being the greatest enemy that faith has. Trying too hard to understand or investigate magic in an intellectual sense should make it irreproducable, perhaps because it's linked to a particular state of mind. That is, if you understand thoroughly what to do in a situation, through experience and prior planning, you can slip into 'the zon
The idea of the first Dawn of War was to keep base building minimal in order to concentrate on the fighting. Dawn of War 2 is simply taking that concept to its logical conclusion.
