GR, glad to hear that. I was > This kind of thing happens sometimes. It's always embarrassing when someone reports spam to your tech desk and it really did come from your coworkers. It's happened to me twice at one place I worked...the first time, we all went down to the

Yup, I'm pretty much sated. Disappointed that I haven't won any converts to my point of view, but satisfied. I guess I'm going to have a rough decision to make in the future. I hate those. If nothing else, I feel better for having ranted for a bit. Thanks, guys (and girls).
OK, that example was ham-handed. Let me rephrase that last line. Not once has he published a magazine article reducing a company's position, while improving one of his employer's conditions. If he did? I don't think he would fail to represent himself as being one of the folks making money in this "business circle". That's really what it boils down to: representing yourself as a neutral third party when you're not.
Axantur, you seem to be stuck on the fact that Tom wrote that he would consider doing more work with Stardock as if there is an ongoing relationship. You say this creates a conflict of interest, So far we're in agreement, I said those things, you have mirrored my intention. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 cl
Tom Chick didn't and doesn't stand to gain anything from us for writing a review of Sword of the Stars. That is true IFF he does not have an ongoing business relationship ("future dollars") with either of the two parties. You know already I don't believe his antics would have impacted one way or another his business relationship with Sta
Yeah Marc, I agree...kind of a misunderstanding. I can go back and edit that if you want, but maybe it's more fun just to let it stand so folks can laugh at me.
Sorry Cari, I switched tenses midsentence...from past to future. My bad. I'll go flog myself.
I believe that TorpedoBeetle meant that we are not paying him, encouraging him, or in anyway deliberately trying to influence Tom Chick's reviews of other strategy games. I never believed this to be the case, and would never believe it. I understand that some - considerably closer to the trees to fail to see the forest - are not able to discern
Ok Kinjiru, that's fair. I felt passionately about a topic and came here to 'tell' Stardock that future business relationship with this guy will sour business relationships between them and - again this is my hope - a number of other conscientious consumers. Folks who vote for good business practices with their dollars. If you think I've been belligerent, you're probably right, but it's only because every single reply from Stardock has been to defend their innocence in Tom's b
So, let me get this straight, it's our job to police any people that have, at some point, worked for this company, and make sure they don't say anything bad about other games? To help you get this straight: No. He
I was just going to listen to opinions...but if you guys are seriously going to turn this into a disinformation campaign, try harder not to ignore this little fact: "However, there's a more compelling reason that I can't really talk about beyond to say this: Brad has asked me to work for him again on the manual for a specific upcoming project and I've told him I'd be glad to. I can't really say more on that front, and it's very much a future thing, but it's one of the reasons I'd be unc
It doesn't matter, I've said my piece: As a once-customer of Stardock's, if Tom Chick (or anyone else with such questionable business practices) is on your payroll on any future game, you can count on not receiving my money. Good day, gentlemen.
1. Which puts him in a conflict of interest in reviewing a stardock competitor. 2. Acknowledging the existence of a conflict of interest is an interesting way to suggest that another one does not exist. I'm not sure what you or he are trying to prove here. Maybe you're hoping this sleight of hand will work. 3. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Wether he genuinely likes or dislikes the game (he dislikes GC2 as well, or so he has said) has little to do with wether or not h
Man. I just don't get this guy. Check the external link. Short story is that he got paid by Stardock for the manual in GC2 - then gave Sword of the Stars a VERY negative review (the lowest score of any review) - and the developer of that game is calling foul. His answer? "SotS is not a 4x game." Speaking as someone who has played the game, probably more than Chick has, this statement amazes me. "Even if it was, taking money from a competitor is not a conflict of in
It's true, among the scores of other GC2 players, I've been telling all my pals that are into the genre and don't own this game, they're missing out. But lately I've also been going around to the rest of my pals, that are perhaps not into the genre or at least haven't tried it before, that if they don't have the game they're missing out on a gamer cultural revolution of sorts. This really is "The Day We Said 'No'" to invasive copy
I'm a MOO2 man. I appreciate that Frogboy played that game so he's in a good position to know where I'm coming from here. Judging by the games he listed in his 'multiplayer' thread, I suspect we're probably also about the same age and background. Kinda scary. Galciv2 is so much more than any of the MOO's. You already know you nailed the ship design. I can say more words here, but you nailed it and you know it. The enemy factions behave
How I reproduce this: Step 1) Build a fancy ship because it's just so much fun. From the base 'small' chassis, throw on your engine, weapons, modules, whatever you were going to do. 2) Add the first 'fin' module, two of them, then place antennas on the fins. 3) Try to delete the fin, this should get you an error ("you can't do that because stuff is atatched to them"). 4) Iterating through the end of t
Often, you only hear from your customers when there are problems. I know, I work in software too...we only hear from people when they have bugs. You don't hear from the customers that are unable to post saying what a wonderful time they're having because they're doing that instead. Me? No crashes. I mean sure, I noticed that if you delete cosmetic addons off a ship you're building, the icon for that addon stays in the tray until you move the slider bar around. But that's totally
This specific item will probably make it into 3-4 updates from now...there are bigger bugs to fry ATM. Gah! 3-4 updates! Tell me those are 3-4 hours inbetween? Maybe you don't realize, we guys who need this feature...we have spouses. You've put us sleeping out on the couch with the pets by releasing this game...3-4 updates leavin
I have to agree, my own launch day experience was flawless. 5 meg download...I hit update, and it zipped by before I could blink. 5 minutes home from work and I was playing Galciv2. Flawless.
Just wanted to say - I saw this and the last post (for a moment, had hoped "1 day left" was a measurement from yesterday, so thought the game had gone full release...sigh), and decided to buy without getting a review from one of the institutions I actually trust. Even if the game turns out not to be worth $45, rewarding a company for having the right mindset re: copy protection is worth it. Keep up the good work.
