If you would have told me a few moths ago that the Wii was shaping up to be a strong competetitor I probably would have laughed... Now I dont know what to think. Its like a giant comedy of errors really: XBox360 - They been out for almost a year and still dont have what could be considered a flagship title. Wii - Good price, some interesting titles in the works... But its a... Wii... PS3 - Boy you sure want to like it, but Sony has turned into the abusive husband of th

Lets ask old wikipedia what it thinks about the word "obscene" : "Despite its long formal and informal use with a sexual connotation, the word still retains the meanings of "inspiring disgust" and even "inauspicious; ill-omened", as in such uses as "obscene profits", "the obscenity of war", and the like. It can simply be used to mean profanity, or it can mean anything that is taboo, indecent, abhorrent, or disgusting." Being a mild "painful" player I would have to agree that th
Woah... my advice: make peace with em (any way possible) and then buy every one of those fighters you can get your hands on!
Thank goodness! As one who likes to work to political system, that little "desync" was making life a little too easy... Back to crying and pounding the keyboard in frustration (why wont Lord Kona like me?!... I like me!)
When it comes to planet building there are two schools of thought: 1st: Well rounded planets that have a little bit of everything on them. 2nd: Specialty planets that focus on either industry, science, or taxes. The first stratedgy works much better for smaller games and beginers. It works well and is pretty simple to keep straight. As you progress to larger maps and more difficult AI levels, the second method will become more useful. As was mentioned before,
There could have been other factors leading to the fighters tracking your transports. I know from experience that loosing enemys in the depths of their sensor radius isnt an easy game to play, the AIs will often keep hunting in a particular direction even after you are out of their range (makes for some very taught cat and mouse!)
I've had minor races crop up late game many times, maybe its just to shake things up a little? In addition Ive seen both of those races you've mentioned. My guess is you just havent been lucky in trying to find them... keep trying!
That many ships at once? No wonder your system hung! If building that massive of a force is fun for you then by all means, knock yourself out. I'm not about to tell you how you should play and/or value your unnits. But Fued has a good point, because each ship is individually modeled (unless its in a fleet and then only several are modeled, but you run into the same problem) large amounts of ships cause serious performance issues. The game handles the amount of ships it does
Even if you have a very new computer, you are still running a integrated gpu, which by nature just doenst have the horse power that an independent GPU (aka video card) would give. This is an admittedly simplistic explaination, how familiar are you with the inards of your computer? Not knowning isnt a big deal, it just effects how in depth we (the unwashed) can explain things
Muwhahaha! I will... wait is usually play as nuetral or even (gasp!) good. Does that mean that I cant play DA
No, the AIs do not break alliances. On another note, the AIs will go from friendly to declaring war in turn in al but the most extreme cases. Chances are your relationship was sagging and you didnt notice it. Try checking the reports on each civ, this can tell you what each AI likes/dislikes about. It a pretty useful tool for staying out of war and becoming Mr. Personality. Another good way to stay out of war with another civ is to set up several trade routes with them, they
Well wether or not you like the Arceans, constant gift giving isnt the way to go. The AI has built into its code to start to ignore constant gifting if you do it every turn. I suggest you save up some tech and cash and then hit em with a gift bomb (at least 12K plus some very choice techs) The AI has been allowing alliances at "friendly" but to get there a similar ethical alignment to the race you want to ally with makes it much easier. In addition having a strong fleet, good diplomacy
Real quick let me comment on the FTL stuff. Currently Einstein is considered to be right. But there are several schools of thought right now that think that bending space (ala warp drive) may be possible. The only problem with this approach is that the energy required to do so would be more than the total amount currently recorded in the known universe! But then that opens to debate the idea that since energy can neither be created nor destroyed the cumulative total of energy in the universe is
I suggest switching your race colors, dark reds, blues, and greens can be tough to see. Try switching to a lighter color, like white, cyan or something else like that. Should make those colors pop right out
Would be kinda neat if the selected planet got a special extra prison tile/building.
Well Sludge, it seems quite obvious that solitaire is as complex as what you seem to be able to handle. It sounds like you've been bumping around in your little red wagon and some how got it into your head that you were ready for an Airplane! No skate board, no car, just straight red wagon to airplane. This game isnt hard to install or do any of the otherthings you claimed to have done... sheesh, some people just dont understand their limitations... go back to your coloring
Yes and no... there are way to many complaints from people saying either "the AI is cheating!" or "Help I suck!" for this to be a game designed for "noobs" (aren't we all noobs in a sense ) But I do agree that there should be higher costs appplied to juggernaut militaries.
I actually disagree with most you... most I belive that: simple = good Lets look at it logically. Right now with the comabt system as is, the AIs already have their hands full. If you were to change any of the fundemental rules governing combat, the AI would need to be re-written to take the new rules into consideration. With more complicated rules, comes more complicated AI coding. More complex coding will enevitable lead to more bugs. In additon to more resources being used by the A
...Theres a woman resource?
ba - dum - ching!
Hands down the economy resource, a couple of these babies fully upgraded and you cash problems are over forever! Second would probably be the influnce resource... again very powerful... Ive never seen the research or military resources do much so I usually leave em alone unless the are just laying around.
Ok, this is a little wierd. I realize that around finals, I can get a little crazy, but I'm sure I'm right on this one... I loaded up a 1.X game that I was trying to finish before I udated and suddenly I notice that there are big visability patches all over. These are coming from resoucre mining bases that are scattered across the map. Heres the strange part... I never built or bought them! Now maybe its possible that the AIs gave them to me instead of the ships they promi
Psio, it takes a very big person to apologize, and it speaks to your character.
A diffrent genre? Heh, pal we are talking about aliens, space ships, intergalactic travel and adventure... I'm pretty sure we're both talking the SciFi lingo. SciFi has always been just a little insestous in the using and resuing ideas, weather the be book, TV, movie, or in game form. EDIT: Oh nevermind then. ~whistles absently~
Meh, while I have to admit that IF SCII used the term "Dread Lord" (which I dont really rember) thanI have to agree that its kinda odd. But lets be honest, an accient evil/advanced race that long ago disappeared suddenly without a trace and is now coming back to enact its revenge upon all the new races is not new ground in terms of science fiction. In fact lets examine this plot device! Stargate - ok the gould didnt really disapear, but they did leave us alone for quite aw
