I think most veteran players aggree that starbases arent really worth building since they take a long time to build properly and even then they are relatively weak compared to even one of the bigger ships that you have at later stages of the game. They also arent very useful since the only thing they ever can protect are resources. So my suggestions to making them more use

I believe that the diplomacy option of declaring war was introduced in Dark Avatar expansion. If you are playing any version before it, you probally going to have to give your opponent a bloody nose first. Even though its more realistic in some ways, whats the benefit of actually "declaring" war on someone prior to attacking them, and depriv

I always thought engines should scale exponentially with hull size, so the larger the hull, the harder it was to make them go fast. Capital ships are supposed to be lumbering hulks...give you a reason to actually build small and tiny hulled ships. But beyond that, the speed nerfs in DA are intentional, to make it easier for the AI to predict your actions...or give it at least a chance of doing so. It had no chance against the DL super speed ships.

btw: great pick on Nexus. I have the demo, but haven't found it in a store yet. I am kind of in BFE though. I may have to order it online. Oh yeah...you wont find it in a store. Youll have to check amazon, overstock or newegg. Wouldnt it be great if it were a click away on TGN though!

You don't need a dualcore or quadcore. The difference is that dualcore get the feature for "free" (i.e. there's no affect on performance). I'm doing all my weekend coding on a single core and I can't really tell much of a difference in the time between turns. But I can definitely tell a difference in how the AI plays. It's pretty dramatic IMO to watch which ships

TGN and Steam are really the only two viable, legitimate, higher profile game download stores (D2D is a pain factory), with TGN catering more towards obscure, niche games and indie/small developers. Space Rangers 2 was a great pickup, but the TGN selection is aging and needs some fresh blood(er, bytes?) What are some obscure games or bargain bin jewels that could actually really benefit from expousure in TGN, and fit in with the feel of the selection...but also be really good for

After reading some of the petty complaints in this forum, I must remind players of galciv2 that they should feel fortunate to be receiving what appears to be a fine update to our beloved game in the very near future. Also, I think they forget it is not common on wargaming sites to have such timely responses to player posts from the producers of the game like the ones you c

I play on Crippling difficulty, or whatever the highest difficulty is where AI is fully maxed out, but not cheating yet. It is no exaggeration to say, in all my games, from release to version 1.4, Ive never had an enemy troop transport land on one of my planets (except in rare cases of sneaking up on me when my sensor networks werent in place). The enemy simply never escorts or arms their transports that I can see. This weakness is so pronounced, I figured out thats its counter

Because in order to direct a trade route to a specific planet, we need to build the freighter on that planet which is ridiculus. Can you build a freighter on another world, then land it on the planet you want to start the route from, then re-launch it from there to start the route(like you can do with troop transports)? If not, then that is

Armada just looks like an EVE clone to me. Not that thats neccesarily a bad thing.

Moving ships around in every tactical combat, moving armies around in every invasion, detailing the life stories of all your officers and the social histories of your civilization all becomes a bit too much. I might agree with you if it werent for the damn ship designer in GC2. I now spend so much time designing my ships (out of love for it and

Stop by the Metaverse council thread and let us know why you stopped playing meta. This is the type of thing we're interested in finding out to try to help respark interest. Thanks. Well, the reason i want the icons removed is because theyre embarassing. Because I dont do Metaverse, my "e-peen" is out there for all to see, and its shriveled

Hi...I gave up on this metaverse thing a quite a while ago. How do I get rid of the icons from my posts? I deleted all my scores but theyre still there. I seem to remember (from like a year ago) that there was an option to turn them off in your account management, but Ive been all through the labyrinthine menus, but dont see it. If there is, could someone please give me a quick "click-map" on how to get there? Thanks!

[Deleted] Brad posted right before I did. Thanks Brad! BTW, open the beta back up for pre orders, and Ill have something better to do that lurk on the boards asking annoying questions all day

So you havent heard about "Society" then? https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=161&aid=107171 Its a "MMORTS" (massive multi-online real time strat) that SD's working on. The reason there hasnt been any mainstream Massive online RTS ( there are plently of small independant online games like this, if you do the looking and like waiting days in between turns) is because of the rather obvious difficulties involved in coordinating and keeping interesting "strategic" g

Though i beleive Stardock has AT LEAST one game slated for development before they even start on a GC3. Some sort of fantasy game if i recall. And that's not even counting the publishing of Sins of a Solar Empire. But still, i have no doubt there will be a GC3, i'm sure Brad has been jotting down GC3 ideas for months now. Yeah, dont get your

You don't get charged (at least not permanently) until there's something you can actually download. So at this point a preorder is basically just a promise to buy it as soon as it's available Well, the deduction in my account balance upon pre-order suggests youre arguing semantics here(the net effect is the same), but thats neither here nor there

Sorry for the Necromacy in posting to such an old thread, but its neat to mention in light of the original post...as of two weeks ago (almost a year from Frogboys post of shelf space and distribution and a year from game release), that Gal Civ 2 Is still on the shelf of my local Walmart( I noted this angrily while looking for a copy Of Medieval 2 :Total War...which WASNT there...) So you may not be on the shelf of my local comic shop, but thats gotta count for something.

As cool as the concept of the game is, and as impressive as some of the technical functionality its boasting is....I dont understand the "cutesy cuddly cartoony" design of the creatures. I dont understand it in Gal Civ 2 either. I guess its some misplaced attempt to try and appeal to a broader audience (girls and small children?). But I see this often in recent 4x games.( Spore, Civ 4, gal civ2...) I guess it might be effective for Spore, which will be a high profile mainstream game(

No, I am not looking at RPG but rather something of a 4x Medieval / Fantasy, Turn-based Strategy game. I think Heores of Might and Magic V is the type but I wonder if anyone knows of some more. SD has been hinting about an upcoming project along these lines for months, but I dont know if anything has come of it. The last I heard they had failed
