Here at Stardock we are all looking forward to Windows Codename XP, which promises better performance than the current version of Windows, as well as lower system requirements and greater compatibility with existing applications. ;)

I was not aware of this problem (when you reported that I was assigned to TweakVista). I will investigate it. From what I could see immediately, it appears to be reproducible with a simple test case, but the solution may not be simple - the event is not directly called by DesktopX, but by the script runtime. A fix for this is not likely today.

Was this a problem in previous recent builds of DesktopX or was it affected specifically by this version? Can you point me to or email me (greenreaper _at_ stardock dot com) a sample that worked previously, but now does not?

I actually happen to have a H-1B visa. I wanted to work at Stardock. Stardock wanted me to work at Stardock. It took eight months to get all the legal complexities sorted out. And we were lucky, time wise. Fortunately I found a relatively productive way to spend my time. It is a big hassle, at least for small companies. Yet they still do it because that is what they have to do to get the employees that they want. Maybe big companies are

It's magic! No, really . . . To be honest, I cheated a bit. The background file is specified by a path. Normally logon come with their images, so the path is just "X.jpg". However, LogonStudio has the ability to load files from any path, including paths relative to environment variables and executable resources. As all of the Windows wallpapers are in predictable locations, I just have to point to them. The skin file itself is tiny, as the 10kb autogenerated thumbnail is

Installing the trial version over the full version will not get you the latest full version, but the latest trial version. Please download updates through Stardock Central.

As it happens, we would very much like to have it ready, as it would mean that we could promote it and sell more copies of our software. Unfortunately, we sometimes have unforeseen problems, or other projects which have taken priority for a short time. This is how things go in consumer software development. If this disturbs you, I suggest waiting to purchase our software until you have the ability to try it without purchase. This will encourage us to finish it.

I'm not aware that we ever claimed to be a professional organization. Perhaps you would prefer us to follow the example of certain major software vendors, and release based on schedule rather than on readiness? :-)

I would suggest that you update your video drivers. Unfortunately even new hardware can be delivered with old drivers. If drivers are not available from NVIDIA or from your notebook manufacturer, you could try the drivers and inf files from this site .

It might be easier for you , but not for us. The easier it is for us, the more updates we can put out (as GalCiv II has shown). Most people updating the software do have an Internet connection to their PC, so we designed the system for them. I should point out that while a modem would be inadvisable for a full install, it would probably do for an update - they are not that large. This is part of the point of using Stardock Central; it only needs to transfer files which are not alr

For right now, you can save the bonus pack to disk and then copy it over. In the general case, we are not going to be providing separate install executable for updates. You need to install Stardock Central (and probably the game itself) on a computer that does have access, download the update, archive the game, and copy the archive to the computer without access, then restore it on the target computer with Stardock Central. If it's the first time you've done this, you'll also n

I think you mean the E6600 (which I have myself). The Q6600 is a quad-core. To be fair, I must applaud Intel at having reached that price point (no doubt trying to put the boot in to AMD), but you're still paying more for something you're unlikely to use fully a

. . . except he doesn't have any money, 'cause he spent it on the quad-core CPU. In two years the price halved, so the person who bought a dual-core can now buy a newer (and probably faster) quad-core. It'll probably use less power, too. Quad-core CPUs can only really be recommended for those who can demonstrate a need for them right now. Most games are memory- and GPU-bound, and of those that are CPU-bound, most do not have an architecture that can take advantage of quad-cores.

I would like to join my fellows Frogboy (Stardock's CEO) and kryo (Stardock forum overseer and official dogsbody) in expressing our distress for your troubles. Let me be the first - or third - to say that such conduct from our lowly support staff is unacceptable, especially when it comes just days after a major release. You will be glad to hear that I intend to personally remedy this situation upon my arrival at Stardock HQ - which, as a developer, will be shortly before lunch.<b
