Auto Arrange is not on. I want the icons to go where I want them. New ones usually go to the next available spot, but occasionally for some reason, a random one appears under the fence. I would guess that the fence doesn't reserve desktop space for itself. Would be a nice feature.
I have the same issue using Windows 7 64bit. Sometimes on unzipping a file or downloading from the internet, Windows places the file behind my fences even when there is space to the left and below. Screenie provided (I manually made it happen this time)
I would check out bensbargains.net for deals on computers. He lists the current deals at places like Dell and Newegg. I have seen some decent computers there for under $400. I am curious why your IT guy told you to throw away everything (unless your hardware has failed), can't you reformat the drive after you have your data saved off the drive? I have fixed many severely infected computers with a format and reinstallation of the OS. I wish well in any case.

My first was a Commodore Pet. Loved waiting 5 minutes for the tape to load the Star Trek game. Oh the days! Bought an Apple Macintosh 128 in college when they came out. Still have it but it just gives me a sad face on boot.
I had a similar problem when I had 2 startup shortcuts for OD. One was in the "all users" and one in "my user" profile. Don't know how it got doubled up, but the second shortcut caused the settings window to open. Removed the second shortcut and all was well again. Good luck.

Yea, that's what I voted for. It is also what my family called a tiny turtle shaped island in Hawaii when we lived there decades ago.
I check 5 sites everyday 1)Passwird (love the links to great deals), 2) Filehippo (always need to see want software has been updated), 3) VersionTracker (see #2) (the freeware page), 4) Del.icio.us (to find new cool tutorials, helps and other random crap), and of course 5) Wincustomize. It is not a good day if I don't check them at least once.
You should also give more details on what kind of icon you want (program using icon, size, ...) Here is one I quickly made.

I am also having the same problem. Purchased a subscription in Ocotber 2005 and while in only one screen I see that I am a subscriber, in most windows I am not a subscriber. This seemed to have just happened yesterday or the day before.
I am no longer a listed as a subscriber and I am limited in some areas while others seem to be fine. Maybe my subscription is for only 8 months???? Could it all be related.
This is how I do it. First I would save my settings as a theme. Then you need to move the saved (or packaged but I have never used that) theme settings to the computer you want (make sure that the same programs are installed and you put all icons and backgrounds in the same locations. Look for the theme you saved, it is in the "Themes" folder where you installed ObjectDock (default is C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Themes) look for the .ini file

Try music.download.com if you are willing to search for a while. I have found some very good songs posted for free by artists. The have lots of genres, easy sampling and more. I have wasted many hours there.
Can you check the versioning to make sure it is in fact the most recent copy that you're using? In the about dialog it's Build #526 for the latest ObjectDock Plus. (or 525 for the free) Where exactly can you download the updated free version? All I ever get is the same 523 from any download link
