People need to ask why trade tariff are being imposed. Trade tariffs do indeed hurt everyone, but not as much as allowing subsidised goods into your country. Home maufacturers cannot compete against companies which are part funded by foreign governments and will end up going bust creating millions of extra unemployed people. If the US won't accept this then why should any other country? American companies exporting abroard get unfair (as ruled upon by the WTO) tax benefits which makes

You need to seperate the UN from the UN general assembly and security council. For some reason most people have no understanding of what the UN actually does. Go have a look at the UN website at www.un.org. It has many bodies which do tremendous amount of good. There is however a problem with the ability of the UN to handle political disagreements. Lets look at 2 examples. Example 1: - 1st Gulf War - US wanted UN to syupport war. UN agreed and approved military action.

Deathmate, your comments are not the truth. Let me elaborate. Pleas elook at the following site. http://www.btselem.org/ As you'll see this site is supported by rational Israeli's from academia, media and your Knesset. It focusses on the truth. Please read it, many of your posts are very distorted by hate and a long way from the truth. Look at the details of fatalities since September 2000. Nearly 2500 Palestinians have been killed against almost 750 Israelis (including Arab I

Did you try living in Ireland in the 1970's? Then there was hatred. Walls were build between communities. Riots were a common occurance. People were being killed on an almost daily basis. Northern Ireland NOW is where Israel needs to be in 30 years time. It can be done! As for you examples, the UK invading Ireland would be very different from the UK invading Northern Ireland. In one case 95% of the population are Catholic in the other 50% are. Arab countries invading Israel (something w

To add some further comparisons to the debate, look at northern Ireland. At the end of the 16th century there was a large rebellion in Ireland against the English. It went on for many years before it was eventually defeated. In 1603 most of the chieftains in Northern Ireland fled overseas and the English government took the oppertunity to displace the catholics and replace them with Scottish landowners. A plantation occurred. 400 years later and the problems have still not healed. Half

As a member of the EU I constant gripe about the EU farm subsidies. We spend 50% of our entire budget supporting farmers!!!! Worse, the subsidies go to the bigger farmers with most of the money going to the pockets of those who don't need it. It's ludacrous, and I totalyl agree with anyone who feels these subsidies should be removed. I don't have an issue with spending money to preserve the nature of the rural countryside though, but such money should be spent on these things and not on paying f

This morning I noticed in the news papers that the EU has finally decided to start applying trade tarrifs against the US. 3 years after the deadline for action on a world trade organisation ruling against the US expired the EU has finally had enough of American arrogance and is acting. As of March $200M worth of trade tarriffs will be levied, rising by $40M a month for a year and then rising to the full $4B. Why? Well it all begain a few years ago when the US created tax break

I love watching threads on American politics. They're sooo funny. As a non American 'independent' viewer may I say that I oppossed both Clinton's bombing of a factory in Sudan and Bush's WMD argument for going to war. I did however support both wars. The problem I see with America politics is that you're a two party system. It's so easy to gain popularity by villanising the other side. So long as one side is on the left or the right of the other is easy to imply that they're very far left or ver

Actually I'm all in favour of America leaving Nato. I would love to see Nato disbanded. It has served it's function. The sooner the EU governments start taking responsibility for their own defensive needs (the rapid reaction force is a step in the right direction) the better. As for being dominated by Germany, do you have any idea what the EU is about? What it's laws are? how it operates? Obviously not. Please research a bit before posting such statements. Informed opinion is much more

MM77, that's the risk of having seperate forums. I for one know that I'd still read the supprot forums and try to help. I'm sure many others would fall into the same category. I think the important change would be to have a support forum, not a Metaverse forum (though I'd like one of those as well). A support forum would allow those with problem to EASILY find all support emails (they get lost on the main forum with all the metaverse posts) and would give Stardock a single forum to check

Don't worry about the minors outcompeting the majors. This can happen on the lower intelligence settings where the majors are not performing at their best. Minors can't expand outside their starting sector (on these levels) and can not build starbases. This means that you'll always have a distinct advantage over them and late game will be able to defeat them easily. Paul. ~SDC~

Isildur, there are a number of posts on the forum about the german version. Search to find them for more info. Hope Cari's files fixed the problem. Please try not to use the sh... word. While it's unlikely to upset most people, many kids play the game and read the forums. Use the search function to find Cari's email address if you still need it. paul.

MM77, I think you need to look at Asmodean'd id a little closer. Player ID 127 means that he was here BEFORE this game was released.. He's just renewing the request (which occurs every few months) for a more structured forum. Last time this was discussed a number of senior people even offered to moderate various forums (bug/support, empire, general, AAR) but stardock seem reluctant to spread the posts out further. I would also be in favour of at least a support forum, wher

Blade, use the cheat keys to auto allocate all the stars at the start of the game (CTRL+A I think). There will be no expansion phase and all all empires will be equal. You can't submit your scores to the metaverse though. I agree with you on the diplomatic options. Hopefully further advances will add more relationship treaties, including mutual defense, offense, protectorate, trade monopoly, vassal. I'd also like to see planets becoming more like vassals as the government is changed towar

If you have a repeatable crash from a save game then send it to Cari. You'll need to send the .sav file and the save directory associated with the file. She will then be able to locate the problem and fix it. Paul. ~SDC~

As mentioned before Pat, would it be possible to add more comments information. It's like using a forum, you want to see which articles have new comments from the top so you can read those comments. At the moment you are only told how many comments an article has, not if it has new comments since your last visit. It would be nice to see a list of all your comments from your home page. Why? When I look at a users home page I may be interested in seeing what other articles they

There was a bug in a previous version related to the Draginol appearance. The latest update should fix it. If you're already using the latest update then I'm not sure. Paul. ~SDC~

That is the standard message saying that the game was successfully submitted. Usual problem for people is that they submit a game under a different nickname by mistake. Try chat again at a later time or send Cari at Stardock an email with all the details. Paul. ~SDC~

Jolt used to be great for those late night / all night study sessions before exams! A bottle an hour would keep you going all night, sit your exam in the morning, pass and then collaspe for 2 days :-) Those were the days, Paul.

Many student unions already have an informal rate your lecturers. Certainly the student union in the last university I worked at asked all students to rate lecturers at the end of term. Ratings wear split into knowledge, presentation skills, question answering skills, and general helpfulness / friendliness. Courses would then be rated seperately under difficulty, quantity of work and class size. The results would be sent to the deaprtments each term and be available to students. LEcture
