Petition to have a separate forum for Metaverse discussion

I feel that the actual game related discussion is drowning in this forum, with the empire threads taking over. It's getting to the point, where it's actually hard to find the thread that you want.

I move that a forum be created for all empire and Metaverse discussion, and that relevant threads be moved there.

If your looking for strategy question, there is a seperate one for that. However, one of the nice things about this forum is you don't see a bunch of posts griping about "your off topic!, quit that".

It's a nice place :).

I find it is a lot more cluttered by new threads asking a question that has been answered 100 times already (zero metaverse score submission anyone?). but no one really complains about it, they just answer the question. :)

In retrospect, a newbie FAQ sub-forum would be real nice. Lot of repeat questions could be asked there, as well as lower the amount of recruitment posts/threads in the main forum.
The MoO3 board has a set up like that, where there is a seperate sub-forum linked in the main forum.

It might be nice to have more forums. Or it might be nice for persons having questions about game strategy to use the strategies forum, which IMO are under-utilized.

My oh my, how nice and polite you are, MM77. All I did was suggest that this forum be kept for gameplay issues only. I didn't kill your mother or anything, you know. *sigh*

Take the empiring out of the general forum and it might turn into a boring place. What is needed in my opinion is a better search engine. You know, one that can actually search into the thread and all that other neat stuff. Right now, finding something buried in a thread is a bizarre memory game of hoping one is fishing in the right pond. Let's get a better search function, and then see if further reorganization is required later.

SORRY, Asmodean dk

I was upset at something that happened at G.R.O.S.S. :notsure:

It's getting to the point, where it's actually hard to find the thread that you want.

Veteran Asmodean dk,

Down on the BOTTOM of the page there is a icon,
Click on the one that says Watch Thread

Hopefull if you have anymore problems The G.C. Community here which I LOVE TO, can help you. :)

Most questions ARE answered and a lot of time's

BY PEOPLE WHO POST EMPIRE RELATED STUFF! :CONGRAT: :HOT:

We all try to keep are activites in a FEW threads. :D

I agree with Asmodean. I'd like metaverse stuff to be discussed in a separate forum and keep this one for discussing the game, not strategy, but things like gameplay, extensions, suggestions, bug reports, and off topic stuff.

Most similar game sites do have multiple forums:

1. General talk
2. Bug reports and tech support
3. Empire/clan forum

etc. The question is whether Stardock have the resources and inclination to do this. I agree with Ric - the strat forum is underused, and many of the posts you see should be directed there. The flip side is that it is a small community and the numbers involved may not justify multiple threads. Given players name their threads appropriately, and most do, its not hard to tell which are for strats, empires and so on. I think you might be pushing for something that only a real handful of people would use. :)

MM77,
I think you need to look at Asmodean'd id a little closer. Player ID 127 means that he was here BEFORE this game was released.. He's just renewing the request (which occurs every few months) for a more structured forum.
Last time this was discussed a number of senior people even offered to moderate various forums (bug/support, empire, general, AAR) but stardock seem reluctant to spread the posts out further.
I would also be in favour of at least a support forum, where people with problems can get support. I believe that many experienced users would read that forum and help where they could.

I like the fact a new player can come here and ask the same question a hundred times,
but still find someone to answer there question, although i've found gal.civ chat room the most helpful,
i think to have the kind of maturity i've found in this room is special...
everyone is nice...and make's me want to post and keep coming back...and i'm only brand new to this game...:)

Solitair: Thanks for the back-up :)

MM77: It's okay. We can all get worked up over something.

Regarding the topic of this thread: I usually use a forum where every post goes into it's appropriate forum. While the GalCiv forums are somewhat categorized, one could wish for further division. But if it would take valuable time from Stardock, then by all means...let it slide.

Asmodean dk,

Thank You for Except my apology in Post #7

By your statment you wrote I belive you could not fine the post.

But it seems your more on a clutter issue.

I agree it gets messy and a separate forum sounds nice.

But a large part of people that help answer questions are in empires and if thay are in another forum it would probably put a heavier load on STARDOCK.

I may be in left field on this one but I'm guessing the reason some people become Veteran, like yourself is because you help people in the forums, And most are in empires.

If thay were in a separate forum thay would probly rearly come to this one anymore.

I have been know to be wrong at times, its just my thoughts. :)

MM77,
that's the risk of having seperate forums. I for one know that I'd still read the supprot forums and try to help. I'm sure many others would fall into the same category. I think the important change would be to have a support forum, not a Metaverse forum (though I'd like one of those as well). A support forum would allow those with problem to EASILY find all support emails (they get lost on the main forum with all the metaverse posts) and would give Stardock a single forum to check on. The other forums (such as strategy, metaverse, AAR, off-topic) could all be passed on to moderators to take care of. This would leave Stardock with less forum work. The moderators can flag important things to Stardock. This is what happens on many other forums and seems to work well.
Paul.

Diplomat Solitair,

That was very well said. :)

I Hope STARDOCK reads your posts. :)

Your I.D. #41 HOPEFULLY will have the leverage to make this happen. :)

We are?

Where did you hear that? All I can do is ask Stardock nicely. I think we probably need more people requesting such a forum (or at least letting their feelings be known) before such a request is made though.

So those that would like more forums, please post!

Paul.

Well, folks, as a casual reader of this forum, I have to agree with other writers that it has gotten messy here,as GC has gotten bigger, with more and more threads devoted to issues very specific to the various factions/coalitions/clans. I don't begrudge those who are into the factions a bit, but in trying to browse the list of new topics, I find it takes more and more time to do that -- if a new section for factions just isn't possible, then what about some identifier (different color, asterisk lead-in, etc.) on the topic heading to make things just a little easier for those of us browsing to be able to discriminate between what is faction-related and what is not?

And, I have to agree with the general view that this is one of the most civil, polite, helpful, mature, and responsible spots on the Web. Pat ourselves on the backs, folks. :)
