Thanks for the positive comments. Jafo, I promise that I'll look into litestep integration eventually (work and 'deus ex' addictions permitting :0) ). I have considered in the past just opening up the source to allow others to do just this kind of extension. What do you think? Would anyone here be interested in that sort of thing?

Maybe some day I'll sit down, install litestep, and crank out a version specifically tuned for it. I am a little hesitant because it took a lot of work to figure out how to get it to run on the desktop of the explorer shell, and I'm afraid it would as much to get it to work with litestep. Then again, it's likely that the litestep shell would have better documentation for this type of shell enhancement. The MS documentation is really light on this stuff for the explorer shell. Thanks for the info Jafo. Now, LiteSTEP is only alternate shell i've used in the past, and I remember that it takes the place of explorer, and given that my program looks for the desktop as it exists when explorer is around, I did kind of expect it to fail with LiteSTEP. The fact that Koasati says that it will work with NextStart (with some problems) surprised me, must be that either NextStart runs on top of explorer (without replacing it), or it does a damn good job of looking like ex

re: hidden desktop icons. Thanks for the feedback Koasati. However, i'm not sure what you mean by hiding your desktop icons. If your icon layout changes while the program is running, you can right click on the icon for it in the system tray and select refresh... kinda inconvenient, but i *think* it would deal with your problem (correct me if i'm out to lunch). re: latest version. Hello, I am seeking comments on the following desktop enhancement tool: http://zmatrix.n3.net Before you even bother however, please let me warn you that it is only compatible with windows 2000 or windows XP, and active desktop must be turned off for the best behaviour. So please don't complain about the product just because it doesn't run under 9x.
