I think the story is explained in Galciv1. These older races apparantly know where all the planets are. The AI's prefer to colonise planets outside their own areas. This allows borders to be erratic and confused which in turn causes more interesting diplomacy mmmwwwaaahhh Good for us, bad for them.

I have a sloppy impression that taking down a farm does not get that quick a morale boost--maybe the code accounts for people being unhappy about watching all those kinfolk starve to death... In Galciv we care if you mine dangerous asteroids, suffer desease, get poisoned, scared by beasts, take drugs and suffer painfil alien things. <br

since I was just coming off Civ IV it was a bonus CivIV.... that's not saying much. I have played all the civilisation games and was always delighted until playing civIV. What a flop! Mainly because artilery units got turned into bombardless uniks (however you spell the word).

Mystikmind : It is already possible in Dread Lord. (If I understand correctly) Your battleship with lots of weapons with an attack rating of 100 have a 5% chance of not killing in one blow the 6hp ship (but still damaging it). Right now in DA, if you have 6 lasers, you will always kill the 6hp ship. (With my proposed change, it your odds would be 1/32 or 1/64, depending on

The bigger problem is when you see the AI basically forget about one of it's resource bases. (leave it at +5% for months and months at a time) The AI probably needs to ensure a planet keeps building constructors to ensure that this doesn't happen. Perhaps. The AI has a priority system which best ensures it's survival within the lim

So, if you have not updated to 1.4X, you should do so as soon as possible. 1.3 isn't that bad! It does have a much higher 'fleet' advantage than 1.4 if you can get the 'first strike' attack high enough, you won't loose any ships or take any damage in 1.3. This is admitedly a bit 'cheesy' but how they fixed it in 1.4 has other 'cheesy' conse

1. They need better tech Agree very much so 2. They should be able to host ships like a planet (but few, say, 3-4) Yea, might be nice - agree a little bit. but tiny hulled ships only

Yep, I've seen Voyager. And no, it's not irrelevant, not to the point I was making. You didn't understand at all... i meant that 'how' the technology was obtained is irrelevant. Time travel or no time travel the Technology is obtained and becomes availabe to use as is what happens in the game. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=

OK so all of the sudden my population went to 0. What the...? You must have put the taxation slider bar too high? Taxation should never exceed 50% - between 30 and 40 percent is best.

FYI you could just tick the 'upgrade all ships of this type' box in the upgrade dialog, rather than upgrading them one-by-one. You can do this of course, I only do it if i didn't happen to have enough money to upgrade my whole fleet with the design improvement. but it is still much better to use the same name for upgrading. Saves confusion,

It sure would be spiffy to have some sort of tech where you could click on uninhabited planets and check out the tiles available What?? Thats silly, do you think telescopes grow on trees??? (massive sarcasm alert) Yes great idea, also why not have planetary recourses where some are visible and others remain hidden untill colonisatio

I enjoy the battle screen. Only two things seriously bother me; Some of the projectiles are too slow. I don't like waiting so long for the weapon to impact the hull. Also i don't like the red damage display. It gives too much of a 'vague' approximation of the damage occuring. Some other minor things are noticable but generally don't bother me.

Planetary and galactic recources which are needed before you can build certain wonders or units would introduce some new dynamics to the game. Players would have to get off their hands and take that recource if they want to be able to build those nice ships! Certain planets have natural recources which can be traded with Alien races. different alien races pay much more for certain recources - Forcing players to find the best buyers. Above concepts noted in some other games i ha

The "find" button or TAB key should do the trick for your 3rd question. No, the find key will not scroll through all ships with movement points. That only happens if you use up the movement points as you go. So if you want to scroll through and asses all your ships before moving them... sorry, your out of luck.

I do not believe this is a bug. Name your new design with the new engines mother ship 2, instead of mother ship 1, and see what happens. No, giving a new name will prevent the automatic fleet update from working and you will be forced to upgrade all your ships individually, bad idea Mistralok.

Nah, finances are pretty easy actually to be honest I just seemed to get utterly owned militarily (yes I do make my own ships), and I'm not always sure to research so seem to just go 'eh, I'll research *everything*!' Research is a critical thing for this game. An example, there is no point gaining planetary improvements untill most of my pl

It is definitely poor design and poor excuse from Kryo. I wouldn't go so far as to say that... Kryo's response is a legitimate one for certain reasons but for the fact that it goes against the 'realism' of being able to destroy a building. If could attach warp engines to my capital, i could conquor the galaxy with it because it is indestruc

So you fight cheese with cheese? Time travel? You know the implications of time travel don't you? And those upgrades, they're usually sw or hw refinements, not replacing entire weapon systems or defenses or modules... I'm talking about the introduction of new technology, however that may happen is irrelevant. Have you even seen 'Voyager'? Y

Although for some obvious reason I think this should be limited to military starbases only, the influence starbases attack would just be too lame. Makes me wonder.... i think influence should be less significant and not be so easily manipulated with technology and starbase modules. It makes sense that trading starbases would exert some infl

i'm not sure what you mean either? Upgrade problems will only happen if you try to upgrade one of the standard ships or if you try to upgrade from different hull siezes. Be aware that if you decide to change the name of a ship or a ship design, this can lead to upgrade confusion in various ways if you loose track of what your doing.

Thats why I said the AI's should do it when at peace. Ah yes you did, my bad. Yes when at peace and if the parent planet reaches maximum population and or has morale issues then yes, by all means move the population on somewhare else.
