Rude customer: Waiter, waiter! This chicken is bad! Me: (picks up plate, spanks chicken) Bad chicken, bad chicken. You let me know if this chicken gives you any more trouble, ma'am.

Ideology is a shortcut for thinking. I dislike labels immensely. The words 'liberal' and 'conservative' have as much meaning as 'blood' and 'crip' to me. It's no longer an ideology, it's a team. Red vs. Blue.

I think language and thinking are closely related. I'm not sure which is the chicken and which is the egg, though. Big ideas require big words. Clarity requires precision.

from the article you linked to: "But hold on. Now's about the time -- when any regular political party would be preparing to fight an election -- that the NDP's self-destructive impulse kicks in. Anyone who's flirted with supporting the NDP will be familiar with the bizarre determination among supporters to make it unpopular. Like geeky music snobs sneering as their favourite indie band climbs the charts, they view success as a sign of impurity, po

can you really tell if someone is lying by just reading their articles?? Why on earth not? Suppose someone here posted something completely ridiculous, but just barely *possible* , like "Yesterday I had sex with Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and J-Lo. Then I ran a marathon, and found a cure for cancer." Can I *prove* they are lying. No. Do I think they are lying? Yes. When you tell me not to judge whether a blog entry is BS or

On a related note, humans are becoming extinct: http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040419-102758-5684r.htm OTTAWA, ON, Apr. 19 (UPI) -- Statistics Canada said Monday that Canada's "crude birth rate," declined by slightly more than a quarter from 1992 to 2002. The crude birth rate measures the number of live births per thousand Canadians. In 2002, Canadian women gave birth to 328,802 babies, down 1.5 perce

I was a Peace Corps volunteer once. Actually, it was the Canadian NetCorps program. I was a cybermissionary. It was cool. Anyhoo, at the info meeting we had a volunteer who had just returned from Kiribati, and she gave us the slide show. She seemed to enjoy the experience, and I'm pretty sure you will too.

I forget which Reform guy (Jack Reynolds?) said this but it's good: "I have seen this movie before and it's called John Turner" And I think that's being generous. What I dislike most about Martin is MartinSpeak: "Let me tell you....clearly...transparent...in no uncertain terms".... Your Canuck Political Blog links look cool, I'm gonna check 'em out.

Great post. CULTIVATING COMMUNITY TAKES HONESTY I think that due to the current climate of hysteria and political correctness it is impossible to have an honest debate on the most fundamental problems facing society today. That's very bad. Left versus right and Black versus White are false dichotomies. The real enemy is bullshit. Let's start calling a spade a spade and find out where people really stand. You may be surprised t

Dharma, Good article. It's good to see people thinking and curious to try different things. Myself, I'm going in the opposite direction. But first I should tell you that back in February when I last quit drugs I was soooooo angry at the world I was actually considering wearing warpaint in public. I can laugh about it now, but I was dead serious at the time. Anyhoo, as the good doctor says, most of my problems solutions involve hard

kingbee, I think you make a good point. Although Bush's comments to Bob Woodward ("History? We won’t know. We’ll all be dead’.”) suggest he may be a closet Keynesian, heheheh.... "We're all Keynesians now" - Richard M. Nixon

DesignGuy, This is my first day of 'blogging' and my first day at JoeUser. I'm here to find my voice too, among other reasons. It's been 12 years since university, so my writing skills are rusty. I'm going to try to bang out the words as best I can, though. Cheers, man. "Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight" - Bruce Cockburn
