Raise minimum wage laws high enough and all labor is outsourced. It's probably more likely that the US dollar would fall and inflation would rise, depending on how much of the population is on minimum wage. If too many people were affected outsourcing would be unlikely because labour would become cheaper, not more expensive, compared to labour purchased with a weaker US dollar. But excessive inflation is never desirable, so it's still a very b

Oh, she paid rent. But no, that's not the "Christian" solution in these circles. The "Christian" solution is for the engaged to live completely apart and pretend that these feelings for each other aren't happening. Yeah I have to admit it's a little odd considering how so many pastors and priests carry on with 'housekeepers' and the like. I guess the Christian life ain't for me!

Why didn't your wife move into that third room and pay rent? Wouldn't that have been a 'Christian' solution? Don't get me wrong - I'm not going to judge you either way. I don't have the right. But I'd always go for asking the girlfriend to pay rent over getting some new psychotic into the house.

I'm still wondering what exactly you think is particularly socialist about your local library. It is, after all, a fundamentally socialist ideal to provide educational materials to the general populace, so wouldn't a reduction in universal access be a reduction in socialism?

And what parts would that be? Huh? You're really going to have to try harder to be clear. I have no idea what you mean by 'parts' here. Are you talking about words? Clauses? Parts of an assertion? Parts of an obtuse description? Parts of you? Parts of evidence? Precision in all things is God's way of saying sorry.

Cacto: Ha. I actually don't think women always look bad a little heavier because I think women are meant to be soft, but doughy knees on a dude just seems wrong. I dunno, I think anyone whose fat rolls over the top over their knees is just not hot. I would like to say though that I am completely unsurprised that Lucas disagrees. Beggars can't be choosers.

Don't worry, I'm not attracted to girls with knee fat either. It's just not hot on anyone. I mean can you imagine some fashion expert going to a potential model, "I'm sorry Jessica Alba/CalvinKleinClone3000, you have abs of steel/a waist like the fall of the Roman Empire but your knees...They're just not fat enough. Get out of my sight."

While opinions are based on facts as we see them they don't have to be facts. Sorry if I am talking down to you but you don't seem to know the difference between opinions and facts. Apparently not. So far as I can tell from your rather obtuse description they're assertions that don't require evidence. Therefore take what I said as opinions rather than assertions of fact. Satisfied?

The problem is that most people take that view and we never see the facts only the accusations. That's a bit rich! Where's your facts and figures? The sole source for this article seems to be the O'Reilly Factor, which is an infotainment opinion show, and the arguments you've made against me weren't exactly supported by reputable peer-reviewed sources. If you're going to throw stones you might want to get out of the glasshouse first.

But the can’t come up with any that have had this horrible torture they talk about. Except for that guy in Germany we discussed a few weeks (months?) ago. You know the one - he's launched a court case that has led to the indictment of a number of suspected CIA members. Got a little surprise for you, neither has the United States of America. Okay, international law then, although I suppose hard

I don't disagree at all, I just don't see them dominating technology in the way they did 1,000 years ago. Having such a huge population requires tremendous resource commitment to simply feed, house, and clothe them. To some extent I agree, but private enterprise is growing rapidly in China and should be able to deliver those kinds of services without too much trouble. After all, China already clothes the world. Their food comes from some local agricult

Their culture has changed so much over the past century or so, especially since the change to a Communist society, that in many ways they've actually gone backwards in comparison to their ancient ancestors. It won't and hasn't lasted. So many of their citizens are studying the sciences overseas that they'll catch up very soon on overseas developments, and having 1.2 billion people allows for an awful lot of geniuses to be born and exploited. They've al

It does sound strange that she takes that position, but she does have a point. If America is unwilling to follow international law, why should Iran? American soldiers captured anywhere in the world really can't expect to be treated any better than if they were at Guantanamo or rendition victims. Of course that's still better treatment than anyone would have expected a century ago. Where she falls flat, however, is fairly obvious - The captured soldiers are British, not American, and

They also caused the downfall of the Roman empire through their own expansion and the subsequent domino-effect displacement of barbarian tribes. It makes me wonder how far ahead they're going to be when their investments in science and technology education today start to pay off. How do we even have a hope of keeping up?

Did you know there's a strong argument to be made that your 'Dark Lady' was a young male actor called William Hughes? It's one of the more lasting conspiracy theories of the middle ages, although whether you think it was hushed up or a filthy lie is up to you.

in fact, I was pretty much derided by one of the lefties on this blog for recycling...go figure Are you talking about me? As I've said before, I'm no environmentalist. We can reduce and reuse, but there's no point getting overexcited about the environment. It's pretty robust and more than capable of looking after itself. Anyway, I also said I don't have a real problem with you recycling if you feel it necessary, but it does make your yard loo

The going rate for aluminum cans is 50 cents a pound, cacto. Dirty aluminum goes for 19 cents a pound. cashing in scrap metal is not only common sense, it's also good for the planet, or so folks like you keep telling us. I think you'll find I have little patience for recycling or the environment, but I'll ignore that attempted jibe of yours for the moment. In any case I don't begrudge you doing it (although from what you've said before I ha

Furry Canary: (and I really hope that name doesn't mean what I think it might) Okay...? Relax, take a load off. I am being completely honest in saying that I had never heard of V8 until it was explained to me by LW. Given your erroneous claims above, isn't it rather that you don't want to undermine your prejudices by letting those pesky little facts get in the way? Of course. Wow, you're an angry little tacker Asty! So much spite for what is, after all, just a company that makes pretty white boxes full of circuits and flashing lights. There's no need to take it so personally with spontaneous CAPITALISATION and rather concerning use of multiple exclamation marks (which is incidentally a sure sign of encroaching mental illness, so you might want to head off to a friendly local GP to have a check-up). I think you need to have a bit of a lie-down and r

PLUS you have to buy the hardware to match...hardware that THEY manufacture! Yes, very shiny, very attractive hardware. I really don't see what the problem is. If you want Mac 'quality' and software, you buy a mac. If you don't care about looks or Mac-style 'quality' you make your own, buy a beige box or buy one of those hideously garish neon-studded monstrosities. After all, Compaq used to have their own software. You couldn't get that on a
