What will your race be like?

So I imagine there are a good number of other people out there like myself. People who live for the chance to custimize their race/character/vehicle/whatever when they play games.

I love adding my own personal flare to things

With that in mind.. I was wondering what your first custom race will be like in Gal Civ 2?

What will its name be? what kind of ships will you build and what will their names be?

Do you have a back story in mind?

Cmon lets see some creativity!

I'm already playing the Murfsters. Very friendly, they never start a war, but don't make them think you want to play, or you'll never see the end of it. Named and patterned after my 26 lb Maine Coon cat. Most loving cat I've ever had, but get him wound up, and he'll draw large quantities of blood.

Babylon5 universe & races would be cool...

I've already got the Gobbos and the Frozen Imperium. But I just can't ignore that miniturization bonus on the Yor...

Mine would be machines, calculating machines. Kind of like the Yor, only without the hatred for organic life. (That's not calculating, that's an emotion.)

Maybe kinda weird but I usually play with stock races. I try to deal with inherent strengths/weaknesses and make do with what I'm given. Some might call it boring but that's me. I'll probably try some custom race games though.

Some pretty good stuff

I can see where those of you who prefer/like the existing races are coming from. Normally I am totally bored by the stock races/characters in games when I can create my own, but Im digging the backstories and uniqueness of the races in GC2 and I think I might give them all a shot.

My first custome race is going to be "The Republic of Texas".. a rebel human faction (from Texas of course) that took the opportunity provided by hyperdrive to split off from the human race and go their own way on a new planet.

My ships will be named things like

The "Lonestar" class scout (my long range scout)
The Texas "Ranger" class fighter (my small fighter ship)
The "Alamo" class battleship (my huge flagship)

And then ill probably throw in some fun designs and name them things like the "Chuck Norris", the "Mathew McConaughey" the "Sam Houston" maybe call my freighters or colony ships "NASA"....maybe some defensive minded ships called "Armadillos"

should be fun

You are going to run out of texan names sooner or later!

Most likely I will be playing "The Ryonians"

Ship design will be pureblack drengin, Allthough not allways evil.

Mine is pretty simple.

The Free Trade Alliance; with huge emphasis placed making money. Ive had games with 2 or 3 words, and generated over 1000bc/turn.

Its kinda hard to ignore such an economic powerhouse next door, isnt it!

Kats,

Kat Lord, Kat folk, ship names after larger cats, bobcats, cheetah, lion, tiger, panther, puma, ocelot, leopard etc.

Race name: Prydaen (I used to play DR alot)
Home world: Prydeland
Leader: ME silly kitty!

Tendancy to strike first ask questions later type of race, employs lightning fast attack with typical results. Neutral in the strictest code though, never to good, never to bad right in the middle. Definitely good soldier and combat skills, military production is decent, no breeding unless your a made cat of course, with your own command, whether that is male or female is up for grabs (as we have progressed beyond normal animal tendancies of the male being lazy and the female doing all the work here).

Research and social production are normal no specific bonuses there, but there is a hit point bonus and a tendancy torwards more offensive flares on ships than defensive ones. We/I like to be spoken nice to and the shiny objects and techs the other races have attract us and we can be won over alot of times by simply giving them to us.

We never waste our meals either

The pre-cursor races, the Arnor and Dread Lords, are much like the Vorlons and Shadows, with their advanced organic ships. The Vorlons and Shadows had planet killer ships. Likely, the Arnor and Dread Lords would have something similar. Perhaps in an expansion pack these super weapons could make an appearance (in the battles with the Dread Lords, steal this tech from the Dread Lords, discover old pre-cursor planet killer ships, etc.)

Will the Arnor make an appearance in an expansion pack? Maybe the good/neutral races could join with the Arnor against the evil races and the Dread Lords.

whoa, a little off topic there, Paul

My race....

The Illuminati:

We're a peaceful race with intent on spreading our culture and ways of peace throughout the galaxy. If you're our neighbor, expect cultural and trading starbases to pop up around your planets. We have diplomatic and economic advantages and invest heavily into social production. After all, we aim to please. Mess with us and you'll be answering to our neighbors who just so happen to get a third of their income from us.

I already made my own custom races also. Latest was Galactic Samurai. An emerging empire based on honor, tradition and values. Home planet I named Neo Kyoto. Leader name: Supreme Shogun (of course !!). Ethics choose good since theres no law vs chaos(lawful chaotic or neutral like D&D) thingy. In the feudal lords analogy, governors wouldn't be elected officials they would be generals (or admirals if you like space navy idea ) also of highest caliber on the field of battle and have their own high personal honor. Also we have a well rounded approach not single mindedly focusing on military but also encourage the arts and culture.

Ship names: Sai, Wakizashi, Katana, No-Dachi, (and other weapon names )

Im going for The Lowan Federation. The Lowans are a race of more-or-less Superhumans (cybernetic) that are up the Evoultion chain a bit more. They used to control earth (up until 10 years before the humans discovered that fabled Sensor Drone) They Actually had Hyperdrive and were the ones to dish out Fusion. their hyperdrive technology was encrypted to "regular Humans" and was never known to them until 2170 (when they unleashed total hell) so after the arceans was discovered The terran alliance was formed and overthrew the Lowas (after which they left with what they had:much technology and much knowledge) so as such, In 2220 They rediscovered each other and decied to open realations with each other Because of this they have good ties. Not much else is known about them...
before i continue the Lowans are also Highly Industrious and are decent diplomats (From their Cousins,The humans!),and can still pack a punch!
Now about Ships....
The Flagship is the Imperial Mandate
The main Fighter (General purpose) is the Imperial Knuckle (so it has many and they ain't that strong...)
The 1st Class BS(Battleship-like) is The Imperial Fist
The 2nd Class BS is the Imperial vanguard(i thought Wardell didn't use this for his ships ohwell )
and the mightiest ship that is not classifed is the Imperial King (there is a "emporer" class which is classifed but much stronger)The Imperial king is very expensive and Extremly potent. So the Lowans are very imperialistic

I guess this could happen, but why would you want it to? From what I understand of the history, the Arnor were quite frankly, getting their proverbial hind quarters blasted all over their known universe. I expect the only thing that saved them was researching the ultimate technology and ascendance to godlike status. (remember that little movie in GC1, apply that in principle here.) Fortunately for us they booted the Dread Lords far far away, giving us time to mature from primal ooze so to speak.

Also, somewhere in the back of my mind the reason the Dread Lords hate the humans so much more than everyone else (despite the fact they are suppose to by program) is this:

Fact: Dread Lords kicking Arnorian booty.
Fact: Arnor down to last star system.
Fact: Both cultures disappear.
Rumor: Dread Lords are back.
Assumption: One of the races (probably human) is becoming a threat to the neutrality of the universe. Why is that, because the humans are the direct descendants of the Arnor genetically speaking of course. As the Dread Lords kept smoking system after system, star after star, the last Arnor outpost was in the Sol System, a single yellow primary consisting of 10 planets of which 3 were colonizable. The Dread Lords employed their super weapon Star Destructor from afar not wanting to take any chances on the Arnor rallying with their back against the wall and thought they detonated Sol...

They were wrong, of course. They detonated the 5th planet out. The resultant explosion though created a huge plethora of asteroids and meteors destroying 99.997% of known life in the rest of the solar system.

Millions of years later... along come the humans, no one knows where they come from, however, their biological genetics match the Arnor within 7/10ths of one percent. Coincidence I think not... the Dark Yor (told ya they played a bigger part in this than you would think) send an encrypted hyperwarp message via their one precursor machine they have always maintained as part of their programming to somewhere... than they promptly and unilaterally erase all knowledge of said message and function of said machine.

yadda, yadda, yadda, sniff sniff... along come the Dread Lords to finish up on the sons and daughters of the Arnor.

Just when you thought it was safe to take a katnap under the kitchen table and a bath... its time for Armagedon Part Deux... Galactic Civilization Style.
