All my questions in one post!

I have the entire suite, love it, but....

hi all, jiggy here, first time caller and i will put all my stardock app Qs all in one post for convience sake, I have the entire suite of products, all enhanced and updated (whew, well almost) and have started to customize a set of networked computers for our new music studio opening soon in Kathmandu. So here goes:

WindowsFX2.11
As I have put an object doc tray on the top of the screen I am trying to get all windows to maximize just below the doc's tabs. currently, the title bar of the windows are covered by the tabs which are always on top. not bad, but it makes closing/minumizing the app a pain. So I was using windowsFX feature to resize the app when maxed and place in x,y coordinate. So far the resize feature works, but i can't get the coordinates right. maybe i don't get the grid eh? does this function work and how? This is very important, as i sure don't want to run all apps in a custom window size set by hand...

ObjectDOC Icon directories and Docklets
It seems that all the stardoc apps have different directories for icons and actually different icon formats for reading, but to add an icon to a doc object, object doc looks in it's own icon directory, and not icon packagers. So what i am doing is extracting the icons using iconpackager and placing in the objectdoc directory. this gives me two sets for the same icon package. is that the way it works?

Right Mouse Click app
I really like this app, but it seems to only work on the desktop. Is that the way it's supposed to? I though I could customize other applications right clicks...oh well.

SysStatsDocket
I can't seem to get these to work right, and it might be a directory problem. all the objects load without the images, and i have to customize each docklet and try to find the icon/image associated with the meters. This cant be right...

Strange behavior for show desktop
Eversince installing the stardoc suite (i am running iconsx, rightmouseclick, windowblinds, windowsFX, objectdocPlus) clicking the showdesktop icon show another desktop, one without iconx effects. what's up with that?

Aquarium v1
I tried this, and it's an interesting application of desktopX yes? But is there a way to move the objects like u can move the fish. It does not mesh with our desktop logo, but if I could move the reeds and chest and whatnot, it might work, but what i was hoping for was a screensaver function, ie. after period of inactivity the fish started swimming...maybe upgrade to aquarium 2006 allows this?

WindowBlinds 4.51 vs. V5
Is there a need to upgrade here? any new function? 4.51 is working perfectally for me now.

Well, that's it for now, thanks!!!

Icon Packager and Object Dock are two different programs. Object dock works mostly off .png files. How I install the icons for OD, I created a new folder in object dock/images/downloads. I know there's crystalized and one other that I"m forgetting off the top of my head. But, I created a new folder under those two and called it Downloads. Unzip all your Object Dock Icons to that folder. Most of the Object Dock icons will not work with Icon Packager due to file formats.

With Right Click, I'm still getting the hang of that one myself, I do belive you can customize each application as it is open to your preference on how you want right click to function in that application. Application has to be open in order to configure it the 1st time. If I'm wrong on this I know someone with more knowledge can help you.

As far as Windows FX is concerned I dont' use that application. Nor do I use the systemstat docket. Sorry, I can't help you there.

For WB 4 vs WB5 WB5 has more features added to it than WB4. One off the top of my head is per pixel alpha blending very cool. The other great feature that I like but some may forget about is it's a .dll file, which means it doesn't take up processor speed vs WB4 does

Don't have Aquarium v1 can't help ya there. But, I hope what I have said helps

I"m sure someone will come along and help out as well.

thanks for that! all of it helps. i just installed windowblinds 5, arg it changed my theme on me! but it's not a bad one, looks like iSkin but better.

let me know about right click, i can't get it to work but for the desktop, which is at least very cool.

wish i could get windowsFX to open windows where i want them to go. then the rest is just nitty.

lots of fun eh?

Ok Jigs, been doing some research, for your IconX. When you ran DesktopX for the first time did you prompt desktopx to have IconX to control the appearance of your desktop icons? Or did you just click on to maintain existing windows functionality?

RightClick enables you to put programs, URLs, and a host of Windows functionality right onto the desktop menu. Moreover, you can assign a hot-key to bring it up even when your desktop is covered with other programs.

It's also fully skinnable and supports adding DesktopX widgets to your menus.

That's about all the info I found on Right Click. Sorry

thanks patriot! on iconx yes i did say yes to control appearence and it does that, but i think it does someother strange things too. maybe the desktop view (native) is just hosed, not that i need it.

iconx is a very strange beast. on my machines i have to click and try several times to drag the icon around, like when i wanted to copy desktop shortcuts to a doc tab. but my plan is not to have a lot of shortcuts on the desktop...

On right click, it's all of that, yes, but it seems just for right click on the desktop. It inherits the windowblind, so that's nice, and lets u add alot of useful stuff, like the systray. but i notice again strange behavior with this one too. but it works...

On all the rest, well here is what I have concluded:

WindowBlinds 5 is a KILLER. I mean it killed my system. I had to go to safe mode to get rid of it. I'll stick with 4.5, its a good app. Also, it is not compatible with WindowsFX, which u find out after the install. Ready next year it says! But which year it does not say.

I guess I would have one overall comment on this suite now that i have worked with all the apps. Its all very cool but not very professional, ie. about screens, help panels, etc. The installs are agravating too, all those links to purchase the other products and sometimes apps install under all users sometimes current user, no choice given. Makes u think you are working with a bunch of freeware written by strangers. But maybe it was! Well, it's all fun anyway and so far nothing that a restore from backup did not fix...

Although I have nothing to offer about computers, period, welcome to joeland.

This thread would probably be better suited to the Stardock Support forum at Wincustomize. At least you'd get more responses, not necessarily better.

thanks sir! i guess i'll try that but at this point i don't think there is much to do overall...this stuff is just buggy. add the fact that docklets are written by everyone and anyone, the dlls being used may be the cause of most problems. rightclick is really crazy!
