Update on Recording

...for those interested

This is to update those interested… The recording process went very well indeed. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. The process can be a laborious and tedious, with moments of activity book ended by long periods of sitting around waiting for things to happen. Our session went remarkably well and proved to be very enjoyable and, most importantly, a whole lot of fun. We went in with the objective of recording tracks for 5 songs over 8 hours. Under normal circumstances, this would be a big ask, but given we had a lot of the backing tracks already prepared and that we were extremely well rehearsed, it didn’t seem to be too hard to achieve. We walked out of the studio a little over 8 hours later with our objectives achieved, a very happy result indeed.

While the tracks have not been properly mixed yet, the results so far are very pleasing. The whole aim of recording, as opposed to mixing, is to make sure the very best of every sound is captured to the best of the studio and engineer’s abilities. This is exactly what happened for us. The sounds are crisp and dynamic, the voices are clear and even the backing tracks sound great. Sure, there are mixing issues to sort out, such as separation of some of the instrumentation. We’re spending 6 hours this coming Saturday to do these mixing tasks. I can hardly wait to hear what the final mix sounds like.

The recording and mixing is a small part of the overall process. Once mixing is completed, we’ve then got to get the songs mastered, then duplicated. While this is happening, we also have to decide on the artwork for the sleeve, register the product to get a barcode, find distribution, shoot at least one video, find some live gigs and get our advertising and marketing program together. Of course, we all work day jobs as well, so I think it will probably be at least 3 months before we’ll be able to officially release the EP. If it sounds like hard work, well it is. But there is something wonderful and rewarding about working hard for something so personal. I can hardly wait for you all to hear it.

Shovel; thanks mate. While I'm not much of a believer in 'luck' as opposed to 'creating my own destiny', I do think part of our good fortune was due to your rabbit's foot charm. At least, that is what I'm telling myself. Thanks again for your support.

Chaos Manager; thanks very much. We did enjoy ourselves...

BlueDev; thanks mate. I have very good feelings about this and I'm sure the final product is going to rock.
