multiple shortcuts to same-app FILES not working properly

shortcut to an excel file wont do a thing when excel is already open

..same with any other application: only the first clicked shortcut opens right, all other shortcuts then dont do anything..

I use Object Dock free version and am aware of the issue of running app indicators (explorer.exe) and the option of showing the current instance of a running app, so I know that's not it.. but this still causes me to veer away from Object Dock and toward YzDock..

Thanx in advance for any help

BUMP

Don't know about this, but I'll go ahead and let you know that the person who does come to answer this will probably want version numbers. Version numbers of Objectdock, Excel, and Windows.

well i have ObjectDock Plus v 1.50 Plus Build 528u

I've got the same problem, too.
ObjectDock Plus V1.50 Excel 2003.

It is a very big problem for me, because it limits the usability. I often work simultaneously with several Excel-files.

I personally don't link directly to data files but try this........
Object Dock Properties > General > Advanced Options > UNcheck "When shortcut is run, if program is already running bring it to the foreground only"

Don't know if it will solve your problem but it's a reasonable place to start.

Alternatively, you can do what I do and place a link to a folder on the dock and in the "Dock Entry Properties" CHECK the "Show Folder in a menu"

Edit: I have OD+ and I'm not sure the same is available in the free version.

that option doesn't work. that's the one of the first options i set when setting it up. second method is great if all your excel docs are in the SAME folder. but can be a lil tedious if you have a lot of excel docs and have to scroll through a really long list.

This may help, create a directory and place shortcuts to all the spreadsheets you would want to keep on the dock in it, then create the folder link as mentioned previously. This will cut down on your need to scroll thru large quatities of xls files and give you room for more than might be able to place on a dock.

Thanks for the ideas.

Now I'm comfortable with the "right click + open"-idea. This works fine for me, but doesn't solve the main problem

I hope this will be released in a new revision.

Did anyone come up with the real solution to this problem without having to work around it?

That sure would be nice. I have the same issue. If I wanted to have to right click to get to programs I wouldn't need ObjectDock.

This seems like it should be an easy problem to correct. Have any of the developers checked into this?

well i found a solution. however it involves using alternate software. i guess it's some issue with how excel handles new documents and the way object dock sends the shortcut there. anyway i don't have this issue now that i'm using Open Office. Much smaller footprint than MS Office and has all the same features.
