On A Brighter Note

though I'm still a little disappointed

In house and outhouse fighting between ISP's has resulted in my bigpond.net broadband connection not being put on as promised....hence, my pirating days are on hold. In fact, the squabbling over line coding became so much so, I cancelled my order with bigpond as it was going to take another 2 months to actually recode my phone line to their service. Apparently, my line is already coded by my current ISP, and they're not prepared to remove it for bigpond.net's coding as my contract with them doesn't run out until late March, although that contract was paid out.

What a load of ol' poppycock....al that fuss over lil 'ol me (okay, not so little ) Anyhow, the upshot of it all turns out that my current ISP, in not wanting to lose my custom, cut me a real good deal, a too good to refuse offer that I've accepted....a 1.5mb connection with a 30gb limit over 12 months @$49.95....as opposed to bigpond's 256kb connection with 10gb limit over 24 months @ $59.95 (that's Aussie dollars BTW )

Geez, it sure pays sometimes to threaten to leave, hey.....tho it didn't work with my wife one time, she just asked where I wanted the one-way ticket to.

So what of my pirating days, are they over now? Nope!!! I'll be buggered if I'll give 'em up now....can still go visit bigpond anyhow, and with a 1.5mb connection, who needs them thar sails I didn't have.
Should be up and running in the morning (Monday here).....so batton down them hatches, now I got speedboat status

It always pays to stand up for yourself. Way to get them to see the light!

Hm, I wasn't aware that ISPs limit how much you download.

In about one year, I got my mom 5 or 6 months of free AOL because I kept calling to say that she was getting bumped off a lot and is going to cancel the service. I wonder what else we could get a discount on...

I keep my credit card rates low using the same trick. I haven't paid more than 9% in more than 16 years. I told one company I had an offer from a competitor for transfers with 12 months no interest. They matched the rate so I paid off a car loan with it. It cost $75 for the transfer but I saved more than that every month.

Cell phones are the same. Buy your phone and DO NOT sign up for any contract. Never pay more than 3 cents a minute. Threaten to go to SAM's club or some other discount store and buy the pre-loaded cards.

I don't use a credit card, especially when shopping in stores for appliances, elecrical and computer goods....it's always best to let them know you have CASH, and tell them you've just seen the exact same thing at so 'n so for X amount cheaper.
9 times out of 10 they'll beat the price quoted...so then you go to the next store and do the same thing, and so on....and so on. I once picked up a $2499 Sony hi.fi system for $1250 by shopping around and cutting their own throats for them.
Furthermore, it just goes to show just how much of a mark up retailers put on some items.
