What the Stardock crew is up to...

We'll be back soon!

https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx

If the Stardock crew that hangs out on WinCustomize seems quiet lately, it's because it's been consumed entirely by Galactic Civilizations II.  It's a new strategy game Stardock has been developing for the past two years and it is scheduled to go gold in the next week and a half so everybody is working on those final tweaks.

Big thanks to Jafo who sent us a Kangaroo! (not a real one) it's in my office now. ;)

For those of you interested in what we're doing, here's a link to our game development log where I talk about some of the stuff we've been doing.

Whatever it is, it has to be great stuff, so a big to Stardock. As my wife is into gaming and GamesNet is my next Stardock purchase, this is looking very interesting/promising indeed.

That game looks so freacking cool. I have played gal civ 1 (i think) at my friends house a few years ago.

Are you going to have some distributors in New Zealand or do I have to grovel at the bank to get a credit card to buy it online?

I have taken a ride in the roo's pouch, and it was glorious.

I would love to buy the game online, but that is more expensive than buying it retail. I hoped that online distribution would lead to lower prices for consumers :-/

WTF?!?! Why is pre-ordering it online more than pre-ordering it from EB Games? That makes absolutely *NO* sense. So, you save the cost of the media, you save the cost of a printer manual and a jewel case and a box and the shelf space in a brick and mortar store yet it still costs more? Are you telling me that the bandwidth to provide the file costs more than all of the afore mentioned items?

On an entirely unrelated topic, after reading the latest post on JoeUser by Brad about the game I'm really thinking about picking it up just to try it out. Of course I won't be buying it online from SD if they are going to charge more than EB Games for it....

wait a minute... I can send you something? I would LOVE to send Stardock a gift!!!

In other news...
What's wrong with the price??? I don't get what people are saying. 44 dollars sounds fine. Games cost 60 these days if I recall.

What's wrong with the price

I'm personally fine with $44, if that's the price. My problem is that the GalCiv site lists the downloadable version for $44 and EB Games lists the pre-order for $39. Yes, not much of a difference but why is the download that comes with nothing cost less than the store version that comes with the media, a jewel case, a printed manual, and a box all of which cost extra money to SD. That's all I was sayin', maybe a little more animated than I should have but it seems backwards to me..

My guess would be that it all lies with the phrase 'pre-order'.

EB Games is likely offering a discount at the outset....where in comparison the online price is the normal online price.

Maybe it will all make sense when the NORMAL release Boxed price is listed...

Not rocket-science....just logic...
