help please...

I just reinstalled xp and reinstalled windowblinds 4. None of the skins are working outside of the ones that came down with it. is there a setting in my system or windowblinds that I need to fix....or do I need a newer version of windowblinds? everything worked fine before the reinstall, and I was using windowblinds 4. Thank you for your help......

What themes are your trying to install with WB? There is a newer version of WB out WB5 are you trying to apply themes that are for that version only?

I haven't used WB4 in a while, so I'm going to do the best I can here. What is your start/taskbar set at as far as Classic Menu? I do believe that you should have it set at Classic menu in order for it to skin. Also, have you re-booted since your install? You can try that as well.

You may also want to look into SDC and see if there's any updates that you don't have on WB4 with the new re-install. Hope any of these options help. Let me know and I'll look for more help...

they are helpful, and I did do all fo that....so maybe I'll try to update to a newer version...and see what happens...heheheheh

Well, I am trying here. Like I said it's been a long time for me since I used WB4 though I'm sure it's a lot like WB5 I have object desktop which makes it that much more fool proof for me to download and apply themes

We need more details.....

In what way are they not working?
Do they show in the skins list, but won't apply?
Do they not appear in the list?
How did you reinstall the skins?

(btw.... even WB5 skins should work with WB4. They won't have the new features, but the old style titlebars, and other bits should still be included in the newer skins.)

I'm trying Koasati...But, in all fairness to me, I do believe I said that WB4 and WB5 are used the same way, meaning..guess I wasn't clear enough in my explaination. Sorry ::::going back to my corner:::

I dont know if this will help...but...curserxp works...but new cursor downloads dont install either...even after being unzipped...cursors that came down with it work.

okay wb5 is in.(in-freeking-credible)!!!!!.But skins come down with no gui file in them....all of the skin is there ..but no way of installing or applying....what now????

i had some issues the other day downloading 5imple came up with no uis - i downloaded it 3 times before it took - was using firefox which hasn't messed up the extensions yet - but i did not the ones that did take were short on size compared to what was supposed to download.

sir bichur, thanks for responding....in response to your first post...all of the above, this applies to new skins...I may mean the uis. The skin file is there, but no way to install or apply it...I tried using theme manager but with no success......I'm not sure what to do at this point.this is also the case with cursorxp.

To dl a wba file you 'should' always rightclick and 'save as' to a folder location of your choice...to be sure it downloads as a wba and not a zip.....and also to verify it is not actually a wba INSIDE a zip.

Double-clicking to install it from your own HD is going to be more foolproof, anyway....

I'm using msn...but I have never had this problem before...and this is a brand new xp home reinstall.My previous's firewall was giving serious trouble on some sites. so I dumped and lost everything. now with the reinstall I have wb trouble and cursor trouble but this is as far as I have gotten so far.

XP has a habit of recognising renamed zip archives as zips and downloads/saves them as such.

A wba file is a renamed zip.....and until XP realises that it has a WB proggy to associate wba files with it will continue to save them as zips.

This could easily be why included skins work but downloaded ones do not...
