I hope...

The more I read about this game, the more exited I become. I downloaded the users manual and for the most part, I am happy. Just a few things that I don't like.

1. The gigantic map is only 16x16. I remember it being MUCH larger in the original. Why was it shrunk?

2. The diplomacy ability. I found that this trait can make even the most difficult level very easy. I remember making my diplomacy rating as high as possible, then researching all the diplomacy techs first. After that, every race would give me an arm and leg for mear peanuts. It destroyed the balance big time. I had everything maxed out because every race was giving me hundreds every turn. Kinda rediculous. Hopefully this is toned down a little.

Map sizes can't be compared.  In GalCiv 1, all the planets were inside a single star and the sectors were (I believe) 10 tiles by 10 tiles.  Now they're 15 tiles by 15 tiles.  So sectors are 1.5X as big and there's a lot more to them.

I guess you weren't playing at maso level then since at this level, you won't get lots of money for tech.

I haven't tried creating a game with such extreme diplomcy bonuses but I have found that the AI will refuse to trade military techs with you if your military is powerful. I assume similar 'common sense' limits apply elsewhere.

I have seen this as well. Wraping this together with diplomacy... The AI will love you if you get the mil techs and then gift them.
