For Christmas!!!!

So it's the day before Christmas and the boys are all home. So I'm sitting here thinking about the games we'll play tomorrow. It's quite common on Christmas for us to open up a few games to play. My favorites are scrabble and cribbage. But now that I have a son that likes to use scientific words I've never heard of I'm not so sure about the scrabble idea. I may have to table scrabble until he leaves since he's the first to go back to college.

Basically I play different games with the different boys. Brian is so into Chess. I've never been able to beat him, but I think I can say I've given him the best game at least here in this family. I remember when he was little......if he got even the smallest idea he was starting to lose it....he would lose it.....throwing the board up in the air in a fit. He doesn't do that anymore.....thankfully.

David is my scrabble buddy. We're pretty evenly matched there. And Bobby is my cribbage partner. It's funny I never play cribbage with the other two.

But it really gets heated when we all play hearts. And brutal. There is no mercy. Funny how nasty a game with the name of "hearts" can be....LOL.....with four men....it must be a testosterone thing!!!

This year I got all of us one of those fancy big wood sets that have all these games in there. It's like a coffee table item. Nice looking. It has scrabble, chess, checkers, cribbage among others I think.

So what games do you like to play? Or is it about football and videos? We do that too!!

But whatever....it's all about being close to family and enjoying the day of Christ's Birth and enjoying the family he's given us. We may bicker and argue over the stupidest word or chess move but it's what draws us closer together and we always look forword to it.

that's really cool. i've always wished that i had brothers and sisters closer to my age. almost 7 years b/t Jasmine and I, and 11 years between Noah and I. I love them anyway. Noah has been down playing with his train sets all morning, and Jasmine listening to the soundtrack for that broadway show i was telling you about. it's funny how sometimes i feel like another mother for them, and other times they can be like my best friends. i always love it when my family gets together, with nothing in particular we need to get done, and we can just be together and enjoy each other's company. however i cannot do that unless i have my hot cocoa. that's a given.

I just learned to play squequence, it combines cards with a scrabble like format. Love it, and also
love to play scrabble, have forgotten how to play cribbage but my kid sister loved it so much she was in
a cribbage tournament.

BTW, my first board game was Candyland, circa 1950's!

I love scrabble AND cribbage... chess I can play, but it's not a favorite. We have Sequence, too... that one's fun as well.

We'll be heading to church in the morning, and then home to unwrap gifts with my parents and have a nice turkey dinner. I'm sure that our day will include football at some point, or movies... but I'm hoping we can break out some games, too. It's challenging with ages ranging from 48 (big kid) to 5 (little kid), but maybe we can figure it all out. That would be nice.

I wanna come play games at your house! I love hearts, and spades too. Maybe we can find a time during vacation to get our families together... or at least parts of them. That would be cool... although... with Joel having surgery Wed, that could be a neat trick too. We'll see I'd love that, though.

Hehe. I always make Adrian mad because I slaughter him at Scrabble. I am very strategic and make sure I use the bonus squares. Hehe. And it never hurts to add an "s" or an "ed" to an already profitable word! (Contrary to what he says, that is NOT cheating!)

KFC: Sounds like a fun idea. We may have to pull out the board games too!

I am so with you here!!! I love to do this as well. It is not cheating.......and sometimes done just right a letter or two can land me big points adding to two previous words. Boy does that tick the boy off.

ya, that would be fun......let's try to schedule this......hmmmmm with Joel it's gonna be tricky but we can try. How about Monday? Doing anything? I've never played spades.....maybe you can teach us. Maybe that would be good for Joel to keep his mind off his surgery.

I too remember that game and my easy bake oven!!! What's not to like there. Hated dolls tho.

Never heard of that one, but we learned a card game called Michigan one year and played that alot. It involved pennies and was alot of fun also. But would have to pull out my card book again to bring it back to remember it

I just found out recently (as we were playing) the cards we were using to play couples' cribbage are marked. We invited a new couple over to get to know them a bit betterand during our second game, the husband noticed the very subtle markings on the cards. Between us all we figured out the sequence. It was a riot!!!! We were laughing trying to read each other's hand from the back of the cards.

Turned out to be the brainstorm of my middle son who never liked to lose. Now we know why he seemed to win quite a bit at cards. We always wondered what he was up to. See he's not a card player (too much luck involved)....he's a chess player.

*Sigh* I guess we still got work to do on that one!!!

That is why I say that Scrabble is as much strategy as spelling (cause mine sucks - Spelling that is!)
