He's a natural.

Our Jake's drums arrived.

He hung out with his dad, watching him put them all together.  Before they got done I had to run into town.  I was only gone for an hour, but when I came back, Jake was tapping out very clear and very well timed rhythms.

He's mixing it up, using his snare and his toms.  He's practicing rolls that end with a cymbal crash.  He's leaving the bass alone most of the time; I told him he should concentrate on his hands before he threw his foot into the mix as well.

It seems that Jake's a natural drummer.  He doesn't know it yet, but he's getting an MP3 player for Christmas - I'm going to upload some songs with simple drum patterns in them onto his new MP3 player and we're going to see if he can learn to play along with them.

If today's playing is anything to go by, he's not going to have a problem picking up the beat and playing along with it.

I'm sitting here in the living room, listening to Jake drum away, and I'm smiling because I'm so happy.  My Jake, a drummer.

That rawks.

COOL! Get him a copy of Kiss Alive and let him hear 100,000 years. Probably the best drum solo ever in ~ahem~ my humble opinion...

I'll download it from Morpheus and put it on his MP3....I'll tell him 'Mister Shovel' says it's good (that's what he calls you)

Isn't it cool to see our kids excel? To find something they're REALLY good at and just fly with it? Glad he's enjoying his drums.

Oh, I think the Iron Butterfly one is pretty damn good!  And imitated by Sweet Smoke no less in baby Night!

So when are you going to record him?

So when are you going to record him?

I want to catch him when he's doing it naturally, not when he's trying to impress me - which he does when I go in there to watch him.  So, I'll have to sit outside his bedroom door and record a clip on my laptop sometime soon.  Thing is, I don't know how to link to it on here.  Got any ideas?

It's fantastic to hear him play.  He just goes off on those drums and has a blast doing it....and he's GOOD at it.  VERY good.

Upload to a file site (where they let you store any files) and then just post a link.  JU wont do sounds, but a hosted site will.

Sounds like we have the future Buddy Rich/Gene Krupa/Niel Peart argument just starting out! ;~D

I happen to know someone who has been known to put MP3s on articles here at JU. Maybe I'll ask him how he does it sometime and let you know. ;~D

RAWK ON JAKE!!!!!

My nephew, who just turned 13, also got a drum kit for Christmas. Apparently, he is proving to be a natural too.

I have to weigh in on the drummer debate and say if he wants to hear one of the best, he should listen to Led Zepplin. John Bonham is lord of the skins, as far as I'm concerned.

I would agree, but since they are one of my favorite 2 bands, most would say I am biased!

You are a saint to have a real drum set in the house....good grief, our neighbors kid had one in the basement some years back and all I ever heard was those drums. But he was GOOD so I didn't mind too much!
