Hey Bash! Sorry you can't get to school. You missed the release of WB5. Good stuff!

Sorry to hear that Bash.  I hope you learn that labor unions are nothing but trouble.

That's no good, Bash....but I'm sure you'll put your time to good use.

I hope you learn that labor unions are nothing but trouble.

And without them alot of employers would walk all over workers.....however, both sides abuse their power.

Be clear. Roger 'Buttered' Croissant deserves to be arrested and removed from his position as a union leader. He is the worst thing to happen to NY since...well...ever! Those union workers currently make ~$55k a year, and I don't know where you live, but that's a GOOD PAYING job! Then they have the gaul to ask for even more! Terrible situation, I don't like taking 4 hours to go home...

Starkers, wasn't replying to you directly...just speaking in general. This strike gets me incredibly angry...

As for Bash, enjoy the time off kid...have fun...and thank idiotic union leaders for your education not coming as quickly as you'd like.

No worries....my point is that all too often both sides are unnecessarily confrontational...then govt steps in, legislates and takes control.....nobody benifits then.

Little Johnny's govt in Oz is legislating people out of employment with its new workplace laws...thus employers are importing masses of foreign workers who'll accept alot less.

I have seen a lot worse here.  Anyways I have seen these "labor" unions physically attack people that they don't like.  If you like these "unions" then that is fine, but in my opinion they are nothing but trouble.

Well, Bash...You do have some good news. You hear Johnny Damon went to the Yankees??

granted, not all people in labor unions are what we consider upright members of society. plus, it isn't the unions who physically attacked anyone, it was the members. i can't say that i have always agreed with the stances taken by the union i am a member of. hell, i didn't support the one strike we endured back in the late 80's. there are other ways to take a stand sometimes. but, and this is valid point, there are times that a labor strike is the ONLY method the union worker has in order to save his/her wages, pension, and/or insurance. and don't tell me the union worker and his/her wages and benefits are what is behind the bankruptcy of numerous companies in the country today, please. when the workers' wages are frozen for years or reduced and their benefits slashed while upper management is given golden parachutes, stock options worth millions, and bonuses on top of bonuses ....... well, a majority of the blame must fall upon the ones reaping the most benefits and that is not the union worker.

Even with unions, ya can't strike the Gov.  My medicial benifit  which cost me $22 every 2 weeks jumped to $88 every 2 weeks for less coverage in a 3 year period.  What would have happened if we hadn't had a union?

i'm not saying the transit strike is good or bad. i really haven't been reading up on it, to be honest. as i said before, i have not agreed with everything my union has done. often, i've argued against my local union. haha ..  the local pres once threatened to file charges against me with the labor board but, i do think that the american worker has gained many deserved benefits with the representation of the labor unions. and i need a new keyboard.

As always...the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
Labor intensive industries rely on the worker to increase capital growth, etc, but rarely, if ever, reward the lower echelon employees....just the fat cats who don't really deserve or need it.

In Oz right now, no thanks to little Johnny, employers are making drastic cuts to employee benifits....and if a worker refuses to sign a new workplace agreement slashing former entitlements, their employment is terminated.
Many will become unemployable by virtue of the fact that so many bosses are following suit...and/or importing OS workers to replace them.

Maximum profit motivation and greed!!

I remember one smart-arsed union 'ban' by the BLF [Builders Labourers Federation] that halted a 'continuous' concrete pour...[naturally] half-way through it's progress, destroying the success/integrity of a multi-storey construction....and a further 200 concrete trucks in 'convoy' that had to have their loads dumped.

Put simply it was economic terrorism/extortion.

Ultimately the BLF was de-registered...so they sent their goons up to Sydney to muscle in on the MWU.... but at least one came back with 2 broken arms....clearly the goons in Sydney were bigger than the goons in Melbourne.

On the other hand...Little Johnny Howard [our PM] thinks he has a mandate to wipe a 100 years of unionism history from Oz and drag us screaming back into 19th Century England, slaves and all...

Both sides are equally contemptible, more often than not....

Exactly! 1800's one day...Dark Ages the next.

round Table chucked out...King arthur rollin in his grave.....no moral justice, just economic law.

I wish some one would give little Johnny Howard a kick in the butt along with a reality check. He needs to see he is slowly wrecking every thing that has been gained over the last 100 years. As for the days of the B.L.F. they did deserve to be deregistered.there tactics we some what extreme.

better still....banishment to a distant galaxy for his systematic dismantling of Oz...its society, traditions and all we hold dear and true.

average people...workers/families suffer the most cos there's no revenue in retaining equitable/civilised laws for them.

state pollies r no better...withdrawing services, repealing/amending laws so we have chaos/anarchy among our young people....without consequence.

hopefully some will become successful 'guy fawkes' during parliament sittings...let the bastards try ruling in kingdom come.

compulsory to vote in oz...not me, never again..will go to jail in protest...aint one worth voting for
