I have a lousy head for names....

I can be introduced to someone....shake their hand...and their name is gone, forever.....

Maybe it's the handshake....who knows....all I know is it's a real pain....;)

That's why I often use people's 'real names' in threads, IRC, etc....so eventually they 'sink in'.

Sometimes it even works.....;)

.....a bit....;p

I am astounded at how fast I can forget a person's name. The only names I can remember are baseball players'. Somebody pointed out that it's probably because on TV, they show the player, put the name on the screen and say the name. When we get the Wi-Fi implants at the base of our brains, I'll program in that functionality first thing...

The embarrassing moment is when you have to introduce the person one just met to somebody else you know 5 minutes later. Oops...

"What is your name again"? If I had a nickel for.......

Tell me your name, I will forget. Tell me your phone number and I will remember it til I die.

Here'a trick that has helped for me.
When someone tells you their name, imagine yourself writing their name while looking at their face.

The trick is to remember to do it.

I remember names. When I am introduced to them I repeat their name out loud. I remember them all the way back to 1st grade, I guess. At least the girl's names. I had this thing for Lisa Holt, Debbie Johnson, Debbie Peterson, Susie Presley, Linda Hoyt, ....and then 2nd grade rolled around and there was ....

My problem is I don't remember what I did an hour ago.

I think the worse thing to do is call someone by the wrong name if your unsure..ask. I'd rather someone ask me 5 minutes after I already told them , then to be called " Donna " or Ann Marie " A name thats isnt even in the Ballpark is an insult. I had a friend that use to just give people names then introduce them with the wrong name. It was astounding how many people didnt correct them..for a year I called this woman " Diane " A year later she said to me " My name is Charlene "
Sigh...

I have the best wife ever. When we are together as we get close to someone I SHOULD know, she leans over as if to kiss moy neck and give me the basics: name, spouse's name, kids, occupation, etc. I forget right away but get by.

If I am not with her I'm honest about my memory. I say something to the effect that I should know their name but don't. "But it good to meet you again!"
