Taskbar and system tray

Quick question... hopefully simple.  I am new to desktopx, how do i make it so that my taskbar/system tray act as they do in a normal windows desktop.  What i want is:

I want my system tray to expand over the task bar... which i can do.. but then tabs on my taskbar are hidden by the system tray.  I want it so that when the system tray overlaps the taskbar, that the taskbar will auto adjust its size.
