icons change on me?

I have some custom icons for alot of my apps on my pc. when i drag them into the dock it changes them back to the orignal icon for that program. Is there anyway to get around this? I cannot seem to find a way no matter what I try.

right click the dock icon in question, dock entry properties, change image
