Don't Try This at Home--Help :(

Hey All,

I have refrained from posting here as long as I possiblity can. I think I have pulled a don't try this at home stunt, now I'm not sure what to do.

I uninstalled systemetrix, logon studio, theme manager, and WB5. The problem I kept enduring was that everytime I boot up my computer, my uninstall sheild came up and was trying to uninstall programs I didn't want uninstalled. I had this similiar problem with SystemMetrix before. I uninstalled it and everything was working fine. I decided to give it one more go and installed it again--month later. No, problems---as of yet. I then installed logon studio because everytime I tried to install a theme an error message came up with logon studio--not found--

Now everytime I tried to load logon studio, the uninstall sheild comes up
So, figured it was System Metrix at it again--click uninstall. Still had the same error message with Logon ---Click uninstall.

Went to theme manager...same thing WB--yep you guessed it--error Now mind you this is all the same uninstall sheild comes up with all the programs

So, At this point I thought well, maybe everything was "conflicting" so I try the install again. Went to Stardock central downloaded WB5--Nope won't install Stardock does a crash on me. So, I said to myself--Self--install WB4, so I did. No problems did the reboot thing--all is well. Went back to Stardock Central-up pops WB5update 3.03mb--so, I clicked update now-Now I'm watching the download 9.43mb of 9.43mb as it's "updating" thinking why is it downloading 9.43mb? Should only be 3.03??--goes through the whole process--get to 99% complete--Stardock Crashes--Now stubborn as I am, went back to SD and tried again, this time I clicked on auto-archive. Nope Now I get this error message:

C:\program files\stardock\sdcentral\installed\wb5 xml o not found

Sorry to be so long winded on this, but I really have spent all day trying to fix this--I have my pride ya know

Can anyone help me??

Do you use any programs that clean or "fix" your registry?

Also... you wouldn't happen to have Prevx installed would you?

Here is the 'zapper' utility https://www.stardock.com/files/ODNT_zapper.exe

I you feel like attempting a fresh start from scratch, you can try the following:

1 - Copy any skin files you want to save to a temporary folder.

2 - Unload all customization programs, and then return Windows to the default theme using "Display Properties > Themes tab > select Windows XP from Theme drop-down list > click "Apply".

3 - Use the 'zapper' utility (double-click downloaded file) and select all applications listed under "uninstall" tab > click "Apply" to uninstall.

4 - Go to the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > select any remaining WindowBlinds listing, and use the Remove or Uninstall button (you should get a message indicating program has been uninstalled, do you want to remove from list?) > select Yes.

5 - Uninstall the Sysmetrix, and any other customization programs you believe may be conflicting using either the 'uninstaller' in All Programs folder, or using Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

6 - With all Stardock Programs uninstalled, use Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs to remove Stardock Central (use the Custom option during uninstall and use the "Select All" buttons in subsequent dialogs to remove all files that can be removed (also select the "Yes to All" button in the Shared Files message dialog during uninstall)

7 - Reboot computer, and delete any SDCentral, Object Desktop, and Stardock folders left in the following directories:

- C:\Program Files

- C:\Program Files\Common Files

- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Programs

- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data

- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp

8 - Reinstall Stardock Central > start Stardock Central > Login using e-mail and password > close the "beta" update offered for Stardock Central > go to Tools\Settings, then select "Check for Stardock Central Release updates on startup" and "Prompt before updating Stardock Central" > click OK > restart Stardock Central > accept offer to update to version 2.20.357 > reboot computer.

9 - Start Stardock Central > use Tools\Register Products to enter serial number for products and update > attempt to install WB5.

This is a pain, but may be the way to remove the 'Uninstaller" from loading on you.

I would also recommend clearing any cookies and temporary internet files that relate to Stardock before attempting again.

Note - Theme Manager may not be hitting on all cylinders with the new WB5, so you may want to load manually until other programs can catch up as needed.

Note #2 - someone else may have an easier solution, so waiting a bit would not hurt.

Not that I'm aware of.

Also... you wouldn't happen to have Prevx installed would you?

Pardon my brain melt down but what is a prevx? My guess is if I don't know what it is--then, no?

This is a pain, but may be the way to remove the 'Uninstaller" from loading on you.

I had a feeling I was going to have to do this
But thanks for the zapper

I believe Him's a Her based on a post in the Joke Thread.

The WB5 via SDC not completeing is in a few threads today in the Stardock Support section.

Just wondering....Patriots did you
1.) Update to the latest Iconpackager recently?
2.) Uninstall WB5 via SDC before reinstalling? Did you try to update to the 11-28-05 version 5.00.01? I don't show anything more recent in SDC.

I use Sysmetrix and WB5 but not Logonstudio so no help there.

Yes, I did all my uninstall and install through SDC. But everytime I try to "update" my WB5 which was showing version 4.60.048 But, when I went to "update" WBS it was telling me it was never installed So, I tried the method of installing with auto-archive but got this message:

C:\programfiles\stardock\sdcentral\install\wb5.xml 0 *Not Found*

So, I'm running 4.6 right now

How many optional programs, like WB and SysMetrix, are installed on both accounts?

....23 processes??? ......you sure your 'puter is turned on?

that and her profile

Hadn't checked cause I saw the post.

Gary,
I've been shying away from those IP BETA updates since the September v3 release fiasco. Lot of what she describes reminds me of the problems caused when they slipped some dll into the mix that wasn't ready for prime time. I was curious.

I think I should clarify something--I have two users on here but only one account.

As for the optimal program, only thing I have in now is Rainmeater and Rainlender--Besides your standard Object Desk top and Object Dock+
I never did the install of System Metrix after I uninstalled it, or for logon studio either.

Question though--I thought WB runs as a dll and not a exe. if so,why is now showing up on my processes, when it never did before I tackled this uninstall sheild probblem

OK.....two people use the same account, so it's a single account setup.

Go to Start/ Run/ type in msconfig, hit enter. Click on the Startup tab. Look for anything related to install/ uninstall or anything you've un-installed and it's still showing in startup. If you find anything, un-check it, click apply and reboot. When it restarts and prompts you about a change, check 'do not show again' and OK. Let me know if you find anything.

WB4 runs as a process. WB5 does not.

Ok, I found a bunch of things So, they're all checked and I rebooted, I was nervous cause nothing popped up on me
I also had click on services by accident, but I noticed some things on there that were enabled that I no longer have eg: MacVeff (sp) Virus..I got rid of that a long time ago So, I went through that process as well.

Questions now I guess:
1. Should I try "updating" WB5 now?
2. What about the missing wb5xml file? Will that still come up?

Oh, pardon my rudeness, but I really do appreciate all the help your giving me

Do one more thing before you try the WB install; Open Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Events. Look for any errors, particularly those that show at the time of a reboot or startup. If there's a bunch...clear all three lists and reboot and see if you get a boot without any errors.
Ok, yep found a bunch of errors there as well..those are gone and saved a copy of it "just in case"

Any last minute thoughts?
