Why can't I get my PowerDVD to work? Pls help!

Hi, I am new to this and I have loaded some very simple widgets and ObjectDock to my desktop, but I found that I can't play DVDs properly. What happens is this, when ever I try to play a movie, I can hear the sound and I am sure there are pictures as well, but I just can't see it...the DVD window becomes blank. However, if I drag another window over the DVD window, I can see the image. I have not been able to resolve that problem. So, what I do now is unload DesktopX Builder and the ObjectDock, which is returning Windows to its original state then run the DVD program, at this point I can reload DesktopX and the ObjectDock and everything is fine. But everytime, I have to go through the same process to get a movie going...PLEASE HELP!!!

This is a known issue. The only real fix I'm aware of is to unload Object Dock when you watch a movie. Hopefully they'll get this bug before the next version comes out.

I'll second that opinion. Also been experiencing some problems with CursopXP too. No other fix for it.

Quick tip: This one works for me like a charm. Whenever a DVD goes blank like you said i just close the program, reboot without removing DVD from drive, then when the system is rebooted i just start the player (not take out and re-insert the DVD) and hit play. And voila it works.

Same here. I can not watch DVD on Power DVD6 or WinDVD platinium when Object dock is loaded. Unload OD fix the problem. But you can watch DVD movies using some other programs while OD is loaded. Nero show time has similar options like Power DVD but it seams it is not affected with OD. Other solution is VLC Player which is free.

Also Ulead DVD Player works for me, but only in window mode. Not full screen.

Check the box that says Use Hardware Acceleration in the approrpiate DVD Player and your problem should go away

I have the exact same problem and I could never figure it out... Even using Pinnacle Studio Plus 9 for video editing. In the preview window, the screen is black, but sound can be heard. Same goes for PowerDVD, but I don't use ObjectDock, just WindowBlinds 5. I never had this problem using previous versions of WB, just when the beta came out and the new 5.0.

Im suspecting that it might be a transparency issue in OBJD thats killing the picture. I have a TV Tuner that had the same behaviour

It seems there is a problem in XP with overlays when anything per pixel is on screen.  That can be CursorXP, ObjectDock, WindowBlinds 5, Winamp etc.

If your apps have an option to disable the use of overlays then the problem should be resolved.  We will be reporting this problem to Microsoft so they can look into resolving it.
