Happy 70th Birthday, Woody Allen!

It's a shame that his movies of the past 20 years or so haven't been up to snuff. I think he hit his peak with Radio Days. Before that, Annie Hall and Manhattan are outstanding. I don't much care for the dramas. Another Woman, Interiors... They just aren't what I want from a Woody Allen film.

Bullets over Broadway is pretty good.

What are your favorites?

I tend to be biased in favor of all his works, including his mistakes, but here are a partial list of faves:

Crimes and Misdemeanors (the best story he wrote)
Zelig (mockumentary ahead of it's time)
Broadway Danny Rose (funny and sentimental)
Take the Money and Run (so many laughs)
Deconstructing Harry (refreshingly vicious)
Love and Death (transitional film, but very funny)
Hannah and Her Sisters (for my money, his single best film)

I say, see them all - he's a brilliant filmmaker, still.

Zelig and Sleeper were classics, the rest were junk.

I wonder if his wife is of legal drinking age yet. ;~D

Sleeper!  I still laugh just thinking about that one.

Some of the stuff in "Bananas" was really good. Lots of those jokes are borrowed by other movies and TV shows.

"Love and Death" was probably my favorite.

"Scenes from a mall", and "The Purple Rose of Cairo" are also good watches.

Hannah and Her Sisters

I like this one a lot too. "You don't deserve Cole Porter!"

Zelig and Sleeper were classics, the rest were junk.
