Mom, what's this mean?

My 11 year old son quite calmly made this gesture earlier:

..and said "mom, what does this mean?"

For those not in the know, the gesture is called "The Shocker".  It has sexual connotations - the accompanying rhymes are 'two in the coot, one in the boot' or 'two in the pink, one in the stink'.

Yeah, you get the picture.

So, I had to do my best to explain it to my son, who, after he realized what I was talking about, shuddered, gagged and said "that's gross".

I highly doubt he'll be saying the same thing 4 or 5 years from now....

...that's what I was thinking.

I had *NO* idea what that meant. What am I going to do when my kids come home doing all this stuff? I'm so clueless. Maybe once they get to junior high I can loan them out to Karen and she can parent them till 10th grade or something.

I actually learned that last year, and my husband wasn't exactly pleased that I knew about it.

I can't imagine if one of my kids asked. I think I'd just tell them it was a grown up thing and they could ask me again when they were in their 20s. Haha.

That doesn't work in our house.  I wish it did...

For a fee, I'm sure somehting could be arranged..

I'd sit my son down and tell him what it means, then I'd give him a moment for it to sink in. While it sinks in, I'd look him square in the eyes while I'm experiencing a heavy heart. Then I'd closely follow it with, "it's just one of those things people do when they've lost respect for the sanctity of sexuality."

Sexuality can be wonderful. But once people start to make fun of it or exploit it, it's ruined for them.

It's a good thing you don't live in our house, then. Because we've tried to expose our kids to as many age-appropriate things as we can, and have let them make their own decisions. Funnily enough, they've all got great moral compasses and strong senses of what's right and what's wrong.

That's what happens with guided exploration. They get a better sense of self from doing that then they do from tightly controlled environments.

LOL

That is hilarious, and rather nasty since the guy is a cook....ick.

I woulda told my kid it means, "Hey look at me I lost part of a finger!"

Buwhahahaha.

Where he lost it though, would be topic for a much older child!
