WindowBlinds 5 now available!

Start personalizing Windows!

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 5 to the public today.  WindowBlinds allows users to completely alter the look and feel of the Windows interface by applying visual styles (skins) to title bars, buttons, the Start bar, borders and more. Consumers customize nearly everything else in their environments: their cars, homes, clothing and cell phones are based on their personal preferences and needs. With WindowBlinds 5, users can now make their Windows desktops look and feel the way they want.

WindowBlinds 5 introduces a broad range of new features, including per-pixel alpha blending, resulting in smooth or glassy title bars and borders that realistically distort the content behind them; as well as the ability to change toolbar icons, progress animations and the hue and saturation of the Windows interface.

With over over 8 million users worldwide, WindowBlinds 5 is the most popular desktop-enhancement utility of all time according to CNET’s Download.com where it recently passed the 9 million download mark. It is also used by companies such as Microsoft, ATI, nVidia, Alienware, Nintendo and many others to provide custom Windows user interfaces for their customers.

WindowBlinds 5 is $19.95 as a stand-alone program or for $49.95 by purchasing Stardock’s award-winning Windows enhancement suite, Object Desktop. A shareware version of WindowBlinds is available for free download.

it's kind of like winzip, izzee. every time you use winzip, you get a nag screen. also, i think after 30 days, winzip stops functioning. i'm not sure about that since i actually purchased the app. would it make sense for stardock to release a free version of windowblinds that does everything the 20 dollar version does? it seems to me that doing that would be pretty stupid on their part. "Let's spend years developing the application and then give it away"

Izzee: If it comes up every time you change skin then you are trying to apply a per pixel skin.

What is the name of the skin you are trying to apply?

we just don't support it on downloaded skins.

Neil, does that mean that the skins for wb 5.0 that I made will not work with the shareware version? I only need to know because the email will start flying in if that is the case. I will need to do a form letter or something. Thanks for any feedback.

Bought & downloaded it earlier today. All I can say is that it was worth the wait & the money.

Congrats to everyone who's worked on it Now what're the chances of a Christmas skin for WB5 this holiday, eh?

It says you must un-install your old version befor installing version 5.When I un-install version4.5 will I lose all my skins? This will take forever to re-download!?!

Fauhler: that is the correct install directory on 64 bit.

dwax ... you won't lose your previously installed Skins. You'll be given the option to unstall ALL files including Skins, Themes, etc. Don't check that box and your Skins will be intact when you upgrade.

yes, just don't get click happy. watch for the box that mentions uninstalling the skins too - make sure that part is unchecked

I looked, and there is no option as where not to uninstall the skins. When you select uninstall is says Are you sure you want to uninstall windowBlinds and all of its componets? And there is only a yes or no button
Reply #44 Top
Just copy the skin folders out of Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds and then uninstall. If they *do* disappear, you can always copy them back and then rebuild the skin library.

Hey Dogs O Fire. Yes. In fact I just clicked install on 5 through SDC it told me it had to uninstall 4.6, then reboot. Did that. Installed 5, told me to reboot. Did that. Now I'm up and running with no issues so far.
