Help with Bootskin

I have installed the latest version of Bootskin and everytime I reboot my computer I get the black screen message and have to re-boot from the Last Known Good Configuration. I have tried uninstalling this version and installing and older version, but it still doesn't work! Help! I have a HP Pavilion zv5000 Notebook, running Windows XP Home.

What does the "black screen message" say?

BootSkin doesn't work with all motherboards, due to non-standard BIOS settings. (I think notebooks, and laptops are the biggest offenders in this regard) Stardock couldn't find a way around the problem, and halted development on the project. You may as well forget using the app....... it's just not going to work on that machine.

Thanks for reminding me, koasati. I did have big probs with Bootskin on my ThinkPad. Seemed like everytime it was booted with Bootskin, it would mem dump from the BSOD and freeze. I, at the time, thought it might be the particular skin, bug-something, that someone thought would be funny to add some script to. Just uninstalled. Seems like laptops and notebooks, unless you spend $1000s on them, just don't keep up with current software needs.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanks so much for your help scorpio and koasati! I sort-of thought that and uninstalled the program until I got some help. Not to worry, all the other Object Desktop programs are working well. Cheers!

If you don't mind not having a progress bar on the bootskin it *is* still possible to display a custom static bitmap during bootup.

Downside: You need to edit your boot.ini file which, if improperly done, can prevent your computer booting.

I can post more info if anyone's interested.
