Critics Wanted

I had an SS approved, but the WP I made and used in it was not. I thought it was my best work to date, but obviously I overlooked something. So, have at it. I want to know where I messed up or what I missed. Be honest and as brutal as you want, because I have other stuff I am working on and don't want to make the same mistakes.

Thanks.

Is this the WP used? Hmmm...tough call on that one. Maybe a thong, some straps inferring she is wearing something? It's nice, well put together screenie, Po. What was the reasoning on the WP reject?

If I were to toss a wild guess what you did wrong...it would be that you spelled Fairy with 2 Y's...the wall was nice..try adding more shadow so its not so one dimensional and rename it

What was the reasoning on the WP reject?

It was the 'automated' rejection...it didn't meet the qualifications. As far as clothing...A fairy in a thong? ..I thought about it, but thought it was okay the way it was. I didn't 'think' it was 'innapropriate' in that way because it was just her back.

.it would be that you spelled Fairy with 2 Y's.

Actually, that was intentional, because I had dedicated it to 'someone' who spells their nic that way, for all the nice comments they had left me on my skins. If the screenshot got in with the same name..I don't think that was the problem.
As far as shadows...I get nervous because I know they check that sort of detail to make sure it all matches up...and I haven't quite perfected shadowing. But you have a good point. Thanks.

These are all good points and I am taking them into consideration. Thanks for commenting.

I don't know why it was rejected,. I wasn't in on the moderation of this one. I think it's pretty nice except for the big globs of snow (that to me don't look like snow). I can tell you that spelling has nothing to do with it. The fact that it is a 6.7 MB download may have more to do with the rejection than anything else.

I've gotten 2 comments on the snow..and I am looking for something better for that effect.

I never even looked at the size of it. I had two versions of the WP in the zip...one without the snow...and 3 sizes of each. I have been looking at some other WP's that have multiple versions or the ones specifically of narture photo's that have more than 3 files in them. I notice all the ones I have seen have smaller file sizes than mine. How do you get the size smaller without compromising the quality?

Was my comment deleted?

Absolutely not! I would never delete a comment. It didn't post, I guess?
I did see a comment from you on the screenshot page.

BTW, I WAS kidding about the thong...I don't know what criteria is used for approving wallpaper uploads. If I had to guess, I would think the size did have a lot to do with it. Dial-ups would be forever waiting for the wall. You want to dedicate this wall, so dedicate it in the name still...a rose to fairyy...something? Good luck! I still like it the way it is.

I can't believe I wrote "don't look like snow".......

"doesn't look like snow" is what I meant of course.

NT.... I haven't seen a comment by you in this thread, other than the one asking if your comment was deleted.......

IMO the fairy's back needs to have some color. Should match the rest of the body. Also as Fairyy said it needs some more shadows, and maybe increase a bit the overall contrast.

Yup and that's where I left it.

working on the snow..but I don't like what I'm getting. Not happy with little dots.Dot Dot Dot

The original version had more color, and in my 3 days of tweeking, i ended up with what I submitted. Hmmm...

needs some more shadows, and maybe increase a bit the overall contrast

I'm gonna muck it up if I try shadows..but I know, I know....
and The contrast was there in the original..but I tweeked it cause I thought it was too much...

Okay. I'm gonna work with all this info and try again. Thanks everyone!

Okay. This is what I came up with. Opinions?

Po, I like 2-b. Doesn't look like the poor fairy got stuck in a blizzard, and it might not interfere too much with transparent borders in some of the nifty skins I've used (ing). The size makes the fairy look more fairy-sized, if there is such a thing. But the "blizzard" going on in 2-a looks really good, too. Has a nice perception of depth. I think you 've done nice updating on this thing. But I'm just an eye, with no artistic talent. Well, I'm good with very small pencil drawings, but that's a different thread...

Oky. Thta's one for the smaller fairy.

Hum... Po' if the wings looked the same on #2 as on #1 then I would say 2d but I think something didn't scale right with them (layer effect or soemthing along those lines). Well, I like #2 either way... even more so if the wings were identical to 1.

Po....I seem to be getting out the wrong side of the bed alot lately, and having bad hair days that make the whole world seem like it turned to crap, so do you really want me to be a critic?

Grumble, grumble, moan moan......I like the C version best, but make the rose and case a little more clear/prominent, not bigger as in A Other than that, C is the better for me....the snow effect looks quite good IMO

Just don't cover it in hair

There....I feel much better now

Hiya Po!!
The thing that struck me first is the light reflection on her back. It's all one color. Flesh is full of intricacies; dips and curves, muscles and bone. Even the best artists will stay away from drawing the human hand for this reason. I love the whole piece. The rose, snow, wings are all great , but the light on her back throws the whole thing off for me. You are exhibiting some incredible skills, though. I wish I had them. I also like naked fairies. As long as they keep that damn glitter away from me.

I ended up going with 2C. People liked the smaller fairy with less snow..and no hair on her back. Link

If anyone is interested in the other versions..OR the original used in the screenshot, you can email me. I'd be happy to send one off. I doubt they would make it through moderation because of the similarity's.

Thanks for ALL you wonderful help and time.

Yes, 2C is a good choice....will get this one for the female contingent of the household

As for the hairy back thing....I'd just seen some old footage of the wrestler, Brute Barnard, and just had this strange vision of a hairy fairy

Hairy Fairies can be scary
So it's best, to be wary.
For though scarce and seen nary,
they thrive in woods and some on praries.
They grab you and they start to query,
If you really think them hairy.
One wrong answer, like my sister Mary,
and they force you to do hari-kari.

Somebody stop me.
