No Jail Time for Florida Teacher in Sex Case

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,176375,00.html

That is the ACTUAL headline for the Teacher, Debra Lafave, who pleaded guilty to seducing a 14 year old boy.  THE ACTUAL HEADLINE AND VERDICT!

Mason recently wrote an article about the unfairness of a sentence of a hit and run driver. Indeed, they got off relatively scott free.  And Gideon (I think, please forgive me if I mis-attribute) recently wrote about the crime of the fact that some sex offenders get off easy!

And this is proof in the pudding!  What?  The Judge and DA thought she was hot? (She is cute, but not hot.)

Where is the outrage over this travesty?  I mean this woman is a pedophile!  No ifs ands or buts!  And yet, because she is a woman, "ah, she did not mean anything by it!".

I guess you can see where I am going here.  If not, let me drive my mack truck through it to make the view easier.

Why are we treating women different than men when both are slam dunk pedophiles?  We are not talking forcible rape here for the women or the men (that is another issue).  We are talking of a person in power taking advantage of a minor too young to make decisions for themselves yet (that is why they are minors).

Yet on the one hand, we basically condemn a man to death for it.  And on the other, we say "Oh you Pretty thang, we will let it slide this time!  Just dont do it again, honey".

Bull SHIT!

Pure and simple.

Chalk one up for the pro pedophile crowd. Cordelia, that is true, but house arrest should be reserved for non violent offenders. Sexual assault is NO non violent, I don't care what the perverts say!!!

Well, she still has to register as a sex offender, has 3 years house arrest, etc., so they aren't totally letting it slide. However...she's too pretty to serve jail time??? I've never heard this used as an excuse before. And why should it be an excuse? I agree with you, if jail time is the norm then she should be in jail! We should not treat women differently from men.

The insanity plea? Too pretty for jail? Plah.

it scares me.  It really does.  On the one hand, we are trying hard to give women equal rights (and if you read my Mother article, you know that I am at the forefront).  Yet then we do this.  It reminds me of the law and Order episode where the Psychiatrist twisted her patient into committing murder!  Now this is not so extreme, but that is what these people in power have the power to do!  And if male, they get slammed (good).  female?  Smack on the wrist.  It scares me.

No, I believe this is non-violent.  In the physical way.  it is rape in the mental way.  And for that, more than house arrest is in order.

I don't give a rat's behind about her...well...I do. She should definitely be punished more severely. But what about the kid? You know?

I knew she was "too fine" for prison, another case of one of the "beautifull people" getting by on their looks.

It is the same question when it is man and girl.  It is about power.  And pedophelia.

Violence by attack or not, she is a dangerous predatory pedophile who is just as big a threat to her prey as any other. If it was a male teacher who preyed on the same kid, no matter what the kid said, few would defend this act of aggression.

Lets see what happens when it's a male of the species who is "too attractive for prison". The howls of laughter will be audible for miles.

The too pretty for jail thing was just amazing to me. I guess jails are just for ugly folks?

Has anyone heard of any male teachers who have been found guilty of the same thing being let off with house arrest? I haven't.

As one of the world's ugly folk, I find this sort of thing deplorable.

YOu wonder why they just dont see that now.  Sure she looks innocent!  SO did Jeffrey Dahmer!

Hey!  You are right!  I heard it here when I was reading your response!

Nope!  We had 2 in this area in the past 5 years that are doing hard time!

Now, now, let's be gentlemanly about this. It was the parents who did not wish to go to trial. Besides, there was some teenage--boys will be boys--irascible behavior going on here; they're not eunuchs, you know. And dammit, she is too pretty to jail!--especially one with a drinking and depression ailment.

Oddly enough, I can't recall a modern case of any man using the "14 yearold girl seduced me" excuse and came out this well. To me, this is a blow to feminism. This is basically saying that a woman can't be held as responsible as a man in the same situation.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  And yes, boys will be boys.  However, she was in a position of power, and as such she controlled the situation.  Pedophelia is pedophelia, and this non-punishment sends the exact wrong message to women who want a quick dick and are to insecure to stand on a street corner.

Feminism was literally blown away with a blow job (when sex became non-sex).  Unfortunate for the women who trusted in the ideals long since abandoned.

Lafave's ex-husband, Owen Lafave, said Wednesday that she was being treated for mental problems when she committed the crime, but it was a double standard that she avoided prison.

Apparenly I am not the only one who thinks the punishment sucks.

That's what it boils down to, and that's what makes it rape.

I do think there is a horrible double standard here. We cannot allow adults in positions of authority to prey on children, regardless of their gender or how purdy they are.

Yep, a child molester is a child molester.

I think the teacher in question should be turned over to me for "proper" punishment.. eh eh eh eh eh eh DOM laughter abounds.

Gotta love all the puns being thrown around here today. It's good to see we here at JU can keep our sense of humor! ;~D

Your wisdom exceeds your years!  Very good!

Yep, a child molester is a child molester.

I will admit that there are some that prey upon children for sexual gratification (worst), and some who do it for the power trip (not much better). But all suffer a defect that will not be resolved by a slap on the wrist.

As you would not be in her power, she would not respond.
