Discussing the future of DesktopX

Where should the program go from here?

DesktopX is a program that enables users to build their own desktops. It was designed to turn the desktop into putty. That is, you could make pretty much anything with it.  "Anything" has included "widgets", super icons, alternative shell-type environments, and more.

Since its release 1.0 release in 2000, DesktopX has faced stiff competition in programs that specialize on a particular aspect covered by DesktopX.  With Windows Vista due out at the end of 2006, the question must be asked -- where should DesktopX go?  This article talks about some of Stardock's thoughts on the matter and you're invited to participate in the discussion.

DesktopX is lovely program. There's only one thing that I've hated about it for years, too much flexability and the weather objects. I'm tired of having to type in a zip code to get my local weather; I live in the UK and we use postcodes over here and it's not as simple as all that.I now avoid Dx themes with weather objects. Winstep have their weather object sorted where all you have to do is select the country and location in one easy to use interface and it works just brill. Isn't it about time that stardock pulled their fingers out and fixed the bloody thing. There are just too many things in DesktopX. We're not all into scripting.
